[ looks horrified when the grandma lifts her purse and hits him over the head, holding his arms up like he's going to get the shit beaten out of him if he doesn't reason with her. ]

OW! WAIT, I'M SORRY, I DIDN'T MEAN--OW!

[ big brother senses tingling -- sighs, scratching at the back of his head as he pushes & shoves into the crowd at the first sound of distress. makes his way through the bodies & begins to smile when he spots the familiar shade of hair -- ]

[ -- & suddenly finds himself too pained with laughter to move into nathan's rescue. ]

[ has obviously caused a big scene at this time, people pausing in their dancing to watch him vs the old woman. doesn't look like nathan is winning.

looks up and makes a sound of distress, silently raging at damon laughing but he's there nonetheless; the rage overrides the relief, however. ]

JERK!

[ thankfully the lady stops and turns her nose up in the air, giving him one more good WHAP before walking away. gives a pathetic look, rubbing his head. ]

Stupid party. I hate this.

[ stifles a few more laughs before he makes his way forward, a hand rising to land gently on nathan's head. keeps it shielded behind his chest as he starts leading them out of the spotlight. ]

Let's go, tough guy. Before some other old ladies decide you need a beating.

[ goes along without any complaint, glad to get away from the staring and crazy women. grumbles, kicking the back of damon's ankle lightly in a sort-of nudge of retaliation. ]

You owe me big.

[ lets him, knowing he deserves it (somewhat). ruffles his hair in a fond manner. ]

Like hell I do. You're not so bored anymore, are you?

I JUST GOT BEATEN UP BY AN OLD LADY-! How is that entertaining?!

[ pauses. ducks his head slightly, mumbling underneath his breath. ]

But. I guess I'm not bored...

[ laughs, a little more softly than when he was laughing at nathan's predicament, grip loosening once they arrive at a calmer corner but not pushing him away, letting the kid choose whether or not he wants to move away immediately or not. ]

[ and he doesn't move, too content in the somewhat touching (for once) at the moment. shifts a bit, though. decides to say something more serious this time, the thought briefly passing his mind once before. ]

Do you want someone else? Y'know, another girlfriend?

[ isn't moving either, finding it just fine the way they are. blinks at the question though, having been caught off guard. smile widens a little despite looking a little strained, raising an eyebrow as he looks down at nathan. ]

No interest in girls but curious 'bout my love life, huh?

[ peers up at him, almost a little childishly. ]

Well. I don't really like girls, but sure, I'm curious anyway.

[ gives him another hair-ruffle, though absent-mindedly. ]

Well, the answer's that I dunno. Pro'ly not.

[ closes an eye within the hair-ruffle, still looking up at damon with innocent curiosity. ]

Why not? Was it that bad?

[ snorts. ]

Mine? Bad? Like hell.

[ frowns, clearly confused. ]

[ short pause, then shrugs. ]

[ lets out a brief pout, turning his head away to look at the ground. writes it off as being no big deal when he sighs and says: ]

Fine, fine. Guess I can do without an epic explanation.

[ rolls his eyes, looking amused. ]

Heh. Don't be too disappointed. I'm sure you'll get it sometime this century.

[ shrugs, leaning on him a bit. ]

Relationships are too complicated. I don't think I could ever understand them.

[ lets him, hand moving back & forth on his head in a soothing manner. ]

If you never find a lady friend, you won't.

[ closes his eyes, shrugging a bit. ]

I don't need to.
