[ circles around to face her boys when they get inside of the park, taking out her handy dandy map to look over it. doesn't take too long in deciding what to do first; hands go on her hips, giving them a look as if she's leading an army going to war, though the smile on her face adds something more pleasant onto the double-meaning. ]

So I was thinking that we should split up first and meet up for lunch later. It's pretty crowded today. Going in twos is the best option, since we don't want to lose any short people.

[ grumbles and crosses his arms over his chest without another word, slumping into his seat. ]

[ when he's done snickering, he gives nathan a grin, steady & confident. ]

Nevermind the old lady projectiles. We're still awesome.

[ raises his chin up & lets out a defiant snort of air through his nose, nodding in approval. ]

Damn right we are.

[ slips into a comfortable silence after that. it doesn't take long for the night to completely settle in & the fireworks to start; watches the spectacle appreciatively, a smile already at his lips. ]

[ while nathan watches & stares intently, almost like he had never witnessed something like this before. he had seen it many times in movies and short clips around the internet, but somehow it was different in person. gone was his urge to be distracted over anything else, too enveloped in the sparks and pops of colors in the sky. his eyes stay in place the entire time. ]

[ is not faring any better, especially when they start to pick up in patterns & intensity. he leans back, as if to give himself a breather, even as he is unable to stop watching. ]

[ as they continue watching something stirs inside of nathan but he pushes it down, instead opting to watch intently & not think of anything else but the fireworks themselves. when the show comes to a close he simply sits there, the people around them clapping and cheering yet he stays still amongst them. ]

[ closes his eyes, unable to wear his trademark smile in the aftermath of the show. breathes out evenly for a few seconds, watching the people leave. it is only when the crowd has thinned that his thoughts coherent & gathered enough to push him onto his feet. ]

[ blinks in surprise when damon stands up, following suit after. brushes off invisible dust from his pants and adjusts his jacket a bit, reaching down to pick up the wrappings and now-empty bottle of root beer to chuck it into the nearest trashcan.

turns to damon, looks up at him expectantly. ]

[ nods, the smile finally coming back. ]

Let's get outta here.

[ there's something softer in his eyes as he nods back in approval, only saying one word and one word only: ]

Yeah.
