[ the door slides open quietly under his push, greeting him with the sight of the mansion interior bathed in a golden yellow light -- a welcoming atmosphere. smiles, allowing himself to feel mildly impressed that the decorations were not as atrocious or in excess as the (semi-)disastrous party-meeting in their shared past. the first goal of his evening long-since decided, he gives alyssa a kiss to the forehead, brianna a silent look to communicate his intention & a final murmur of departure to his little brothers before he gently detaches himself from them -- but not for long, he hopes, for they are who he wishes to be around the most tonight -- in search of a certain boy-turned-man (mentally, at least).

is rather glad that there seems to be a distinct lack of them running around, making his search very short & effortless. gives anna a small bow & a polite (but well-meant) smile. ]

[ is thankful for his help, up until he speaks. snorts, raising an eyebrow again. ]

Hah. "Presentable", he says. [ jabs his thumb in the direction of albert's hair. ] Get your hair cut first, then say that to me again.

[ an eyebrow of his goes up as well before he simply brushes some of his own hair away from his eyes & tilts his head down a little to give nathan a look. ]

Presentable.

[ stares right back up at him, like he's about to have a staring contest or say something extremely profound... up until he presses a hand into albert's face, pushing it away. ]

[ goes the momentum of the push, too startled to do otherwise, with the thought of grabbing a hold of nathan's hand to set it aside only crossing his mind when the surprise subsides. ]

Ah?

[ feels accomplished, taking another drink of his water, a smartass grin on his face. ]

"Ah", he says.

[ can't help but smile back at the expression, merely tilting his head. ]

Did I deserve that?

[ his response is automatic: ]

Yes.

[ just as automatic: ]

And your explanation?

[ rolls his eyes up to the ceiling, thinking. ]

... 'cause I felt like you deserved it?

Hardly an explanation.

I can do it again if you'd like.

An unnecessary effort.

[ shrugs, looking pleased anyway. ]

Suit yourself.

[ lips twitch into a small smile in response. ]

My many thanks.

[ gives him a passing smile in return, looking down at his stomach to pat it when he feels hungry again. glances at the table with the cookies on them... then scoots on over quickly, nabbing two more. ]

[ follows, well aware of nathan's trajectory. his hand finally finds itself on nathan's head, firm & unmoving yet still gentle. ]

Baby brother.

[ in any other situation he'd notice the hand and look pleased, but since albert is denying him his cookies, he'll just give him a look and shove one of them into his own mouth. ]

What?

Save some of your appetite for the main course.

[ groans like it's the end of the world, as if he were sixteen years old again. puts the other one he picked up back down on the plate, crossing his arms over his chest childishly. ]

[ doesn't remove his hand immediately, running his hand lightly across nathan's head as soft, reassuring motions. ]

[ raises his eyebrows at the motions in surprise, nudging albert's hand a little with his head, as if encouraging him to continue. his eyes soon wander, though, content enough to be momentarily distracted by thoughtfully watching brianna and alyssa (mostly the latter, of course) on the other side of the room. ]

[ a rare time where his attention does not follow to his two princesses, focused on another that he loves as dearly. hands move a few more times before pausing to give his next words more emphasis. ]

[ continues to look at bit longer, almost missing his words. ]

Huh? [ turns his attention back to albert, snapping out of his thoughts. ] 'Thank you' for what?

[ one last pat & then the hand is gone. ]
