[ it felt like bad luck the moment his cellphone rang and woke him up after four hours of sleep. it felt like even worse luck when said person on the other line told nathan that he would be saying hello to their fifth and final member to the 'team'-- alone, which was apparently due to personal reasons from his other three co-workers. this did not deter nathan from furiously texting aaron in anger, only to get a short can't come as a reply. he didn't even bother texting hana, as she still had difficulties texting with an english-language phone, but he still called her and got her voicemail message, which only made him seethe even further.

the anger eventually subsided when coffee was deposited into his hands, drinking his life force happily (or as happy as nathan could get) while turning the corner from starbucks to sit on one of the many chairs littering the front of the shop. once he settled in and tossed his bag onto the table, nathan finally felt like all was right in the world, completely forgetting his original objective for the day. his coffee was his second love, after all, and it deserved his complete and undivided attention. ]

[ makes a thoughtful sound, then shrugs and picks up the phone that's connected throughout the mansion, punching in a few numbers before leaning back on his desk and waiting. ]

--yeah, hi. Pizza. [ pauses. rolls his eyes. ] I dunno! Cheese, tomatoes. [ another pause. ] ... sure, whatever, but I'm not bringing them up to her. Uh-huh. Just bring mine up when it gets here.

[ turns back to caleb after he's hung up the phone, looking satisfied. ]

There. Now we have dinner... or something.

[ still looking up at him from his seat on the floor. ]

Make in Nathan's house? Pizza?

[ shakes his head. ]

Naw, they'll order it. I like Pizza Hut's pizza better.

[ considers this... & then nods slowly. ]

Ja. Pizza Hut pizza is good. I make pizza in Deutschland, but is not good.

Not like, and not... erm, not-like. But I try, because it is not good eat shop food only.

Huh. [ pauses, trying to think if he should ask the first (personal) question that comes to mind, then automatically dismisses it. ] At least you try, I guess. I don't really eat much.

[ watches him for a moment, then looks down, momentarily weighing his options. shakes his head after a while, speaking slowly & a little subdued. ]

[ barely manages understand all of that, silent for a long minute so that he can piece together the words that he understood with the tone of voice & expression. ]

[ holds his breath unconsciously, suddenly feeling vulnerable. there's something that flickers over his face that he's not used to showing, but his aggression takes the best of him; clenches his fists, expression contorting into something akin to anger, perhaps fear, not being able to hold himself back. ]

You don't know ANYTHING about me! Don't talk like you know how I feel, 'cause you're WRONG. I'm just a number in a file that you're gonna read when you leave, okay!? You're not my--

[ stops when someone knocks on his door, head swerving in that direction instantly, ready to shove caleb somewhere to hide. lets his shoulders sag when he hears the word 'pizza'; runs a hand through his hair before he wanders on over to nab it, shutting and locking his door when he's finished. ]

[ stands there awkwardly for a moment, inhaling and exhaling slowly to get himself to calm down. turns slightly towards caleb, scratching his neck a bit. starts talking slowly, as if trying to patch up something he might've just ruined. ]

Look, it's just... not that easy, alright?

[ jerks a little at the sudden yelling, barely adjusting in time to catch everything. sits quietly for a moment after the moment is over, looking both suitably chided & increasingly apologetic. ]

[ tilts head a little, not breaking eye contact, honest in his own hurt, but once again, in acceptance. carefully gets to his feet as not to alarm, & puts a hand to his own chest before continuing. ]

Verzeihen sie mir, Nathan. I hurt too, and I know hurt is not easy.
