[ it had been five days full of nothing but silently following robert along, knowing their path yet allowing the younger boy to take the lead due to his mood. who could blame him, though? he was already well aware of robert and annabelle having a close-knit relationship, one that nobody (not even himself) could wiggle their way into. despite being quite inept to the full extent of the bond the two siblings had, he was perceptive enough to realize that their parting had been quite different than their usual. this is why he ceased the typical banter he always initiated, whether it be with good intent or not.

when robert had finally spoken and begun to say more than a discussion of their plans, he knew that his neighboring prince had begun to settle back into place. dare he say it was a comfort of sorts, despite being the one that needed to be extra strong and encouraging. and with that hurtle behind them, the elder of the two moved to his rightful position once more: on robert's left side, striding next to him as if they're simply taking a walk and nothing more. he subtly kept his pace slower than usual as to not pass the boy, using the map robert had previously pilfered from the archives as a silent excuse to keep their position leveled and even, as they had finally reached territory that both of them weren't completely familiar with.

keeps to their comfortable silent for a while longer. stops in his tracks when a thought hits him and pauses. face is rather straight as he says: ]

I'm hungry.

[ is quick to dig in as soon as the plates hit the table, deaf to riku's words. pointedly ignores his manners & the amused (alarmed?) look he gets from the waitress, all but inhaling the food as they arrive one after another. only when he's about half-way full does he slow down to take a drink himself, the glazed look of hunger slowly leaving his face. swallows his latest bite, then glances up at riku questioningly. gestures at the selection still left standing after his onslaught. ]

Why are you not eating? The distance between this town and the next is not exactly the shortest in the kingdom.

[ hums a little, taking another sip of his drink. ]

Just watching you stuff your face makes me feel rather full.

[ stabs another piece of chicken. ]

Now is not the time for your jokes. Eat.

Ah, but I fear for the life of my hand if I should try. I am very fond of my hand, after all.

[ snorts & pushes a bowl of untouched soup in riku's direction. ]

Says the man who willingly tests my patience on an hourly basis.

[ grabs some of the bread instead, tearing off a piece of it. speaks before popping it into his mouth. ]

'Tis true that it is my most favorite sport.

[ raises an eyebrow, but simply tugs the soup back to help himself -- at a slower, more polite pace, with minimal slurping. ]

Consider yourself lucky that you are still capable of speaking.

Yes, for you are a most frightening beast.

[ snorts. ]

Knowledge does you no good if you neglect applying it to your actions.

And there are those who would be wise to gain the knowledge that should protect them from unforeseen dangers.

[ grabs a piece of bread & rips it in two quite forcefully. ]

We best keep to our silence regarding this afternoon's events. Agreed?

[ sits back in his seat, sighing a little. ]

Agreed.

[ hands one-half of the bread to riku. ]

Are you in need of a room to yourself tonight?

[ picks up on the implications but doesn't show it, masking his amusement as best as possible while taking the bread handed to him. ]

Do you wish to be rid of me for the night?

That depends. Will you keep your snoring to a minimum?

I cannot make any promises.

Then perhaps it'd be best that we go our separate ways for the night.

[ inclines his head a little. ]

If that is what you wish.

[ turns his head away to yawn into his shoulder as he stirs the soup a little tiredly. ]

Regardless of my wishes, I will leave the final decision up to you.

[ can't help himself from smiling at the yawn, though keeps his thoughts on that matter to himself. ]

Let us get you to a room first, at the very least. [ pats the top the table lightly before standing. ] I shall return shortly.

[ glances up at him, finally detaching himself from the food. ]

You've enough gold?

[ jingles the small sack at his side. ]

Plenty. [ taps the table with a finger this time. ] Finish your meal.

[ gives the remaining food a quick look. back up at riku: ]

You've hardly eaten.

Is that an ample amount of concern I hear in your words?

[ slight tilt of the head in a half-challenging manner. ]
