[ it had been five days full of nothing but silently following robert along, knowing their path yet allowing the younger boy to take the lead due to his mood. who could blame him, though? he was already well aware of robert and annabelle having a close-knit relationship, one that nobody (not even himself) could wiggle their way into. despite being quite inept to the full extent of the bond the two siblings had, he was perceptive enough to realize that their parting had been quite different than their usual. this is why he ceased the typical banter he always initiated, whether it be with good intent or not.

when robert had finally spoken and begun to say more than a discussion of their plans, he knew that his neighboring prince had begun to settle back into place. dare he say it was a comfort of sorts, despite being the one that needed to be extra strong and encouraging. and with that hurtle behind them, the elder of the two moved to his rightful position once more: on robert's left side, striding next to him as if they're simply taking a walk and nothing more. he subtly kept his pace slower than usual as to not pass the boy, using the map robert had previously pilfered from the archives as a silent excuse to keep their position leveled and even, as they had finally reached territory that both of them weren't completely familiar with.

keeps to their comfortable silent for a while longer. stops in his tracks when a thought hits him and pauses. face is rather straight as he says: ]

I'm hungry.

[ sputters some more, but manages to flail his way toward riku some. ]

Because YOU! ARE A-- FOOL-- [ flails some more. ] Of the highest degree!!

[ sighs a little, leaning forward to rest his chin on his knees. ]

"A fool"? Robert, I am quite tired of hearing that insult. Do you not have anything better?

[ doesn't answer immediately, flailing his way to where riku is seated. surges upward to grab onto a wrist with the tightest grip he can manage (vice-grip) & yanks -- almost as if he's using riku's weight to pull himself out, but with the purpose of landing him in the lake as well. ]

[ normally he'd be able to stand his ground easily, but surprise by the action plus the position he's in results in exactly what robert wants: into the water he goes with a big SPLASH. ]

[ gurgles out a half-snicker, still flailing in the water. manages a smile regardless & only one sound past his efforts at staying afloat: ]

Hmph!

[ surfaces after a moment or two, just in time to hear that hmph and see that smile. just bobs there for a while, looking disgruntled because his hair is wet... ]

[ feels his lips twitch a little as well after a moment or two, reaching out an arm leisurely, just in case a certain prince can't stay above water anymore. ]

How can you not know how to swim?

[ latches onto that arm immediately, wadding his way through the waters to wrap his arms around riku neck instinctively. using the other as a leverage, tries to push himself above the water some more. ]

Water should remain strictly-- [ gurgle. sputter. ] For drinking and bathing!

[ can't help but snort out in amusement, using his shoulder to muffle out the sound. but he doesn't protest to the ~~monkey~~ latching around his neck, keeping them both afloat with some ease. ]

Ah, but there is no fun to be had in that way of thinking.

[ steadies himself some before responding, coughing a bit. ]

Fun can be had elsewhere.

But fun can also be had anywhere, Your Highness.

[ snorts, then coughs out some more water. makes a disgruntled sound. ]

Must you argue the point now?

[ adjust robert a little, peering at him from the corner of an eye. ]

Is there a better time to?

YES. For instance-- [ gestures at dry land. ]

When I can feel the earth beneath my feet again?

[ pretends to wilt. ]

But this is an important bonding process. Are we not closer?

[ a long moment of consideration--

then just smacks him on the side of the head with a fist, feeling like he's actually justified in striking the other (for a change). ]

Cease talking at once. Get us to shore.

[ winces a little at that but dutifully begins to swim off. ]

No respect. No respect at all.

[ stays latched on. ]

I am more than willing to give it. When you are deserving of it.

And when would that be?

[ sobers a bit. gives him another smack -- a lighter one. ]

Just swim.

Such abuse.

[ just keeps on swimming anyway, leaving his mouth to run some other time. ]

[ remains glued to riku until he's certain that solid ground is within reach. only then does he slowly (slowly) detach himself, one hand after another. rests his elbow on the ledge with a relieved sigh for a moment, then shakily hauls himself out. the joy of being on land again is short-lived, however, when he realizes how drenched he is, already making a good sized puddle where he remains half-seated & half-lying down. ]

. . . Ugh.

[ after making sure that robert is out safely he also hoists himself up onto more stable ground. makes a face at his hair being completely soaked (and will probably begin to smell funny soon) but he tries to play it off as nothing. simply takes a seat to wring out said hair casually, as if it's no big deal. ]

And you say I am the one that complains too much.

[ just... rolls flat on his back on a drier part of grass, staring up at the sky tiredly. ]

I feel that yours may still be coming.

[ huffs a little in amusement, reaching into his pocket to take out a frequently used string to tie his hair back. ]

Nothing a warm bath cannot fix.
