[ he's not really surprised to come home to an empty house, even on a saturday. he doesn't even need to call riku to know where he is; instead, he rolls his eyes to the ceiling in a long-suffering manner as he moves over the kitchen table to set the costco-bought cookies for riku's monday class. then he goes about his usual rituals: checking the fridge, making a note on the portable white-board on what they need to go shopping for, pouring himself a bowl of cereal & peeking in the bathroom to check on the ducks.

he spends a good ten minutes petting them (quack, quack) before he remembers the cereal -- now soggy. but he eats it anyway, slipping on his reading glasses to flip through the latest science journal that sora had received a free subscription while tucked into the corner of the couch, waiting for riku to get home. ]

I want a Mister Riku sandwich! Hey, do you ever pack sandwiches for him? Lunches? Lunchables? I love Lunchables, they're so good.

Nah, just normal lunches. I haven't had a Lunchable in a while.

[ gasps. ]

I'LL GO GET YOU ONE!

[ doesn't even wait for him to say anything, darting off like a rocket towards that window he came in from. ]

[ comes wandering in the direction he was sure to find rob in, catching sight of tony flinging himself out the window. silence, and then: ]

What did you do.

[ stares after tony for a moment, then just sits down in the hallway when the ducks start quacking around his ankle (streaming out of the bathroom), letting them climb onto his lap. looks up at riku when he hears him. ]

I told him I haven't had a Lunchable in a while.

...

[ just. sits down next to rob in silence as one of the ducks rolls into his own lap. ]

[ starts petting the most insistent of the ducks. ]

Do you think he'll come back?

[ shakes his head. ]

He'll most likely get distracted by something on the way to the store.

That's true. I guess we're free for now.

[ nods. keeps to his silence for a moment or two, petting one of the ducks when it starts quacking for attention. ]

... the soup doesn't taste that bad.

[ looks a bit hopeful. ]

Are you sure?

Would I lie to you about soup?

. . . I guess not.

[ leans over to place a quick kiss at the crown of rob's head. ]

Do you want me to go get you a bowl?

[ tries to wiggle closer, trying to avoid hitting any of the ducks. stops when his knee can bump at riku's leg, on which a duckling immediately flounders onto. ]

I'm still sulking. Let's stay here for a while.

[ huffs out in amusement, lifting an arm to put it around rob's shoulders to pull him a bit closer. ]

Remind me to kick him out earlier next time.

[ rests his head against riku's shoulder. ]

You'd just tell me that that's impossible.

[ pushes his nose into rob's hair. ]

Just mention Lunchables again next time.

The same trick would work?

Point. Guess he wouldn't remember the first time.

And you won't either once he calls you "Mrs. Riku" again.

How about Miss Riku?
