[ having decided that meeting anthony half-way would be best for this particular... conversation, he walks a bit slowly, quite aware that his dorm was closer to the school than his friend-slash-goalie's house. (that and he would probably have to struggle with his mode of transportation for a while.) so instead of the usual ten minutes it takes him to arrive to this particular destination, he gives himself thirty, casually making his way to one of the benches underneath a tree.

takes a seat, pulls out his cellphone, then begins to check his messages as he waits; it would be at least another fifteen minute wait, one he was finally willing to be patient for. after all, he wasn't expecting much, anyway. when it came to feelings, expectations were the worst things to have, or so he had logically deducted throughout his childhood. besides, it wouldn't be the end of the world if anything negative happened. this was anthony, after all, the boy who clucked and bawked louder than he spoke or made any semblance of sense with his words.

... it almost made him second-guess himself. almost.

pockets his phone and tilts his head backwards instead, letting it rest against the top of the bench. just simply stares up into the branches and leaves of the tree, allowing himself to show a rare display of being lost in some non-thoughts for the time being. ]

[ slowly looks up at him again. silence. ]

... it was Rachel, wasn't it.

[ shifts his eyes. ]

Nah. It was the leprechauns.

Funny. [ crosses his arms over his chest. ] I will be fine, thank you.

[ --probably. ]

[ makes little sputtering alarm noises. ]

Mayday, mayday, lie alert.

[ breathes out once through his nose heavily. ]

I wish to try a bite, at the very least. If it is not to my tastes, I will gladly hand it over to you.

I can't eat that much.

Then take it home to your father.

[ snaps his fingers. ]

Great idea. This can be his lunch tomorrow. [ pauses. ] Try to eat anyway, and I'll just order another take-out.

[ takes another glance at that specials menu. pauses. turns back again. ]

It's quite alright. I believe I will survive without it.

I'm going to say 'I told you so' today and it's going to be great.

[ ignores and looks at the menu again. ]

I am not too hungry, so I suppose a salad would be fine.

You eat so healthy that even I want to eat like my dad.

Not entirely by choice.

[ waves it off. ]

Don't feel bad. It was meant to be for a soccer player anyway.

[ huffs out a quick sigh before beckoning the waitress over again. after he's finished ordering: ]

Are your classes all sorted out for next semester?

Not yet. Gotta pick out one more class.

An elective?

Yeah. A social science class would be good.

I could recommend you a few classes at a later time, if you'd like. [ taps his finger on the table, looking lost in thought. ] Is your course load heavy?

[ raises his hand to hold his thumb and index finger apart a little. ]

A bit. Which is why I want a class I can be interested in.

[ thinks on this... then a thought strikes him. ]

Have you taken a horticulture course before?

[ stares at him blankly, trying to remember what that word means... ]

. . . Plant science?

The art or practice of garden cultivation and management. [ pauses. a little slowly: ] You work with flowers. I thought you'd might enjoy a course that could help further your understanding of plants and nature.

[ considering this seriously. and then nods, obviously liking the idea. grabs a napkin & a pen from his pocket. ]

Do you know the course code?

[ nods, taking the napkin and pen to scribble said course code down. and a few other things, while he's at it. hands it back. ]
