ON ANNA
Even if Anna seems like the least likely person to have a lot to say about, he's actually very very... complex.
Let's start on the “natural” side of him. Anna is obviously the “happy” one, or so X calls him, so it's no surprise that he's very out there and seems to be constantly excited/in a good mood. For Anna, life is an adventure to explore, so there are very few times where he's bored or complaining about something. He's not a lazy person, either, unlike Rob (or rather, Rob is more lethargic, which gives him reason to be 'lazy' anyhow). Anna would rather be doing something rather than nothing, which is why he's usually taking charge of everything in the mansion. That and he really enjoys planning things/working with people to achieve a mutual goal. It makes him feel more fulfilled if he's doing something for somebody else, as he's not the type of person to be all “ME ME ME.”
And that leads us to how self-sacrificing he is without really knowing it. Since Anna is kind and gentle, he takes on the sort of motherly role when it comes to everyone that lives inside the mansion. He's usually the one who suggests this and that and wants to help whenever somebody needs it, though sometimes he can butt into situations where he wasn't initially welcomed into. Anna would soon realize this and back off, because the last thing he wants to do is upset somebody. But he wouldn't be afraid to scold somebody if they were hurting someone else. He wouldn't get RAGE angry, just a little huffy.
But Anna isn't as stupid as he might make himself out to be. As airheaded as he seems to be, Anna is actually quite intelligent. Being closer to Sora only heightens this fact, seeing as how he listens to what he has to say, asks questions when he doesn't understand, then slowly builds up that understanding by seeing it with his own two eyes. One of his favorite pastimes includes reading, so he's not naïve or uneducated in several subjects, though he does enjoy prose and poetry more than anything else.
Speaking of pastimes, Anna also likes to paint. A lot. His favorite spot in his room would be by the window, so there are a lot of paintings of the sky in different times of the day. He does enjoy painting other things as well (I'm imagining him making Rob sit around with him for a few hours so he could make a portrait of him), but the sky and outside world alone is very important to him. More on this later, though I spoke about it before, so.
Uh. He obviously enjoys spending most of his time with Rob and Sora, though there is no way he could do it at the same time, aka having them all seating in one room together and talking. One reason is because Sora is rarely seen anywhere else but the labs, and another would probably be Rob's aversion to seeing Sora at all. Anna... keeps his time with Sora away from Rob (and the others) as well, simply because he acts differently around him. Slightly, that is. Or maybe not.
When it comes to Sora, though, Anna has two personalities: Being himself and being Roxas. When they're completely alone he's “Roxas”, but when they're downstairs with the others he considers him as Anna. Sure, he expresses some kind of affection towards him in front of people, but the “Roxas” name is dropped and is replaced with his “Anna” personality. It's... very difficult to explain. I suppose the best way to describe it is that Anna doesn't totally shake off the “Roxas” persona, but Sora keeps himself in check because, well. Anna is Anna. Anna is Roxas. ... confusing, I know. Though the whole “offering special services to anyone that wants/needs it” will explain more, I suppose.
While nobody else is allowed to offer any such thing, Anna was set apart to do that job. I know what you're thinking. Why would Sora do this if he's so possessive of Anna (Roxas) in the first place? Again, Anna is kind of a completely different person to Sora. To put him into this duty shows that he still can define Anna from Roxas, though that wavers slightly from time to time (see the spam I did with Sora and Anna). When with somebody else, he will always say “Anna” and not “Roxas”, because at that moment in time he's not “Roxas”. He's just one of five creations that he made. But they both sort of... step into another “world” when they're alone. Anna takes it upon himself to give Sora exactly what he wants (needs) and enjoys knowing that he's helping him.
Even if the above is true, Anna starts having different feelings, just like all the others. He wasn't even concerned about the outside world at first, seeing as how he had everything he needed right inside the mansion. But after a while he realized why he was painting the sky, and why he sat at his window and stared at whatever he could lay his eyes on. That and I imagine him owning some kind of bird, which is yet again another symbol for wanting to go to the outside world but is stuck within his “cage”, hence why he a) has a bird and b) can relate to the ones who are being held “captive”. Though Anna doesn't consider himself as being held back from what he could be doing, he just thinks Sora is being the protective “father” (creator, god, whatever you'd like to call it) of his “children”. But his encounters with X sort of makes him think on the things he subconsciously held back.
Now for more of his... “unnatural” side. It definitely ties into him longing for a way out so he can experience life outside the mansion, but he knows Sora doesn't like this (because he's “Roxas” and he doesn't want “Roxas” to get hurt/taken away from him yet again) so he refuses to acknowledge this part of himself, but X points it out to him as much as he can. A part of him would go insane if he let himself believe that any of that is actually true, but he does listen to X's words, though when he leaves he tells himself that it's all good and nothing is going to change how he feels about Sora. And the others, though they're not doing anything to hold him back. In fact, he knows Rob would rather have Anna be with him than not being able to step outside more than a few times a month (see Rob and Anna playing in the snow), but that creates conflict, and Anna avoids conflict as much as possible. Not that he wouldn't try to find a compromise (he tries to remain positive yet neutral), it's just easier if everyone saw eye-to-eye instead of butting heads.
To go along with this, I at fist didn't see Anna as falling in love with Sora, simply because it's just him pleasing his creator. But then he starts to change (see the longing for the outside world, feeling sadness/depression, etc.) which in turn shifts his feelings around. At first he really did turn into Roxas around Sora, but ever so slowly he's not turning into Roxas, he's just... playing pretend, rather than believing that he's Roxas because Sora believes he is. ... which is a confusing thought in itself. So yes, sooner or later the feelings sort of bubble slowly and then spill over the edge.
This makes him think that he's selfish, because while Sora is doing it because he needs it, Anna is taking what Sora gives for himself and not... 100% giving. Does that make any sense? It's like Anna is finally splitting up this “need” they both have, where Sora needs Roxas and Anna needs Sora, not “Roxas” needing Sora. Cue the dislike for this part of him, cue more things he worries about, and cue that lid being tightly shut for nobody to see.
And yes, he's very much so in denial about a lot of things, though half of it is done unconsciously, which is where X comes in to poke and prod at all those secretly hidden parts of Anna. It makes me wonder if he gives him nightmares (or rather, taps into his mind and shows them to him) from time to time. I'd also talk about Anna & X interacting, but. That's very difficult to explain as well. Or maybe it's so simple, seeing as how Anna loves everyone for who they are.
Hm. He also seems like your typical martyr, though not in a bad way? Martyr is always associated with something negative, so I think he's more of the positive side of the word. The only thing is is that he's absolutely, 100% not perfect, as you can see from the above. He's not... trying to be “perfect” either. He's just trying to please people because he can. He has that free will to do so, so why not? Even if he's hiding behind a smile every now and then, it doesn't make his kindness any less sincere.
Now onto his relationships with other people. Starting off with the professor Riku. Like I said numerous times before, Anna is a nice person. Anna loves everyone. This created much conflict between him and Riku, who doesn't see Anna as anything more than a creation, a thing. But Anna still treats him nicely, though I noticed that sometimes he... takes advantage of his “status” (when it comes to Sora, 'cause Sora's “the law” to them all) to get what he wants. At first he doesn't because he wants to do things by himself while being himself, but sooner or later he does take advantage of how close he is to Sora (see out discussion on how Anna backs Rob up when someone reports back that Rob was acting 'different'). And with Riku basically being Sora's lapdog in some ways, Anna carefully reminds him (through his tone, his words) of how much closer he is to him than Riku is. Sometimes this is done unconsciously, actually. The way he speaks is just honest and true, though again, this changes drastically as the story goes on. So his relationship with Riku just... it never works, even if Anna tries his hardest to make it so.
And now Rob. We spoke on how they're openly affectionate to one another, yet they still tiptoe around a lot of things. They're “careful” without showing it through actions? Just quietly, without it making anything seem awkward or amiss. Anna had been doing it from the start, ever since Sora had taken him away from Rob for a brief amount of time, but he didn't do it with any malicious intent. It was just “their secret” (his & Sora's) and secrets aren't supposed to be blabbed, so. Hm. It's like his type of logic? Buuuut as usual, he slowly but surely develops and understands how much he doesn't tell Rob. They're in harmony, but a lot of things are left unspoken. Sometimes Anna wants to talk about it with him, but they both have their invisible boundaries, which isn't supposed to be broken. Though as a side note, this could be completely different for Rob. I have no idea. But this is how it's like for Anna, so. Yes.
Hm. Oliver. What to say about Anna and Oliver. Anna is very... patient with him. There is no annoyance or irritation, just. Pure patience. If he had to sit there and teach him how to fold a piece of paper and he still didn't get it after a good few years? Anna would continue as long as Oliver wanted to. ... which is difficult, seeing as how Oliver doesn't have any opinions, but Anna can work around that. I think they'd have a very strong connection, though that's mainly because a) Anna is also his “big brother”, but he wants to say “big sister” because of the way he looks (hur hur) & b) Anna can talk and keep a conversation going, opposed to standing around awkwardly or being verbally jabbed at.
It might or might not change once Oliver goes apeshit over being “taken away” from Simon (having him being “taken away”). Imagining Anna being the one to hold him back while he screams and cries would be. Hm. Hard for him to do. We'll see how that plays out.
Augh Simon. Anna wants to baby him because he's one of their “younger” siblings (before Oliver, I mean), but he soon finds out that just going along with what Simon says is what pleases Simon the most. Though he overlooks his attempts at being straight-forward/harsh (mean without really “being” mean) and turns it into something positive because, well, Anna's just a bunch of positive mixed with some sugar (and a drop of something not-so sugary and positive). And since they got along very, very well in the beginning, he's going to be confused on Simon's “sudden” (to him) anger towards him. I'm not sure how he'd handle it, so I'll leave it like this for now.
KH!Riku is a very special case. As we all know, he's the first person to actually see Anna cry. I didn't... plan on it being that way, to be honest, since Anna is so careful with the way he keeps himself in check. But I thought “Why not?” since it would be character development and Riku is the type to not think too much on those things, seeing as how he puts important secret-like stuff on the back burner until it randomly comes up in his mind (aka something reminds him of it, so it pops up, etc.). But Anna trusts Riku, which is exactly why he asked him to “take care” of Rob. Now we know that it was a good idea for him to do that, what with v.3 coming up soon. Still, they have a mutual understanding and love for Rob, so it brings them closer without them even having to try. Riku thinks he's sweet, Anna thinks Riku is sweet, they get along, la de da de da.
I already spoke about Anna and X's relationship several times before, though it was all brief glimpses and nothing more. So hm. What to say about them. I'm guessing Anna was the first to have those “interactive dreams” with X (or maybe Rob was? But X never spoke to him before, so). So they had a lot of time to interact with one another, but like I've said before, X was “interested” in Anna because he's closest to Sora. Since he's closest to Sora, X wanted to use that for his advantage, but Anna is stubborn deep down inside. Though the good part of Anna wants to help X, yet the better half of him wants to help Sora. So he can't have one without the other, which leads him to that “happy medium” kind of solution, but it obviously doesn't work as well as he had hoped. Nonetheless, X seems to be the most calm around Anna, unless he's acting too timid, which... Anna seems to do around X? I'm not sure why, since he's usually confident with his words. ... ugh idk I'll have to spam out them interacting in a dream and see where that goes. Or something.
To be honest, I don't think I even need to explain anything about Sora. Most of it is a) out in the open & b) written in here. Yeah, that's all I need/have to say about them.
... brain is fuzzy from thinking too much on Anna. This is probably hella confusing, but I'll add onto it, as usual.
EDIT; As I promised, there's more on Anna to talk about.
After the fic with him & Riku, we learned that Anna actually doesn't have much to give in terms of comfort. Because Sora needs that physical affection to keep himself in check, Anna automatically thinks that's the way to comfort someone. Not to mention that his "side job" also requires some ounce of comfort, so if the person is satisfied afterward (they always are), then Anna feels like it's a pat on the head. He did a good job, so it means he'll do a good job & help others by, you know, having sex with them.
This leads him to being more naive in this area than any other area in his life. Anna knows more than a lot of other people do, due to being someone who keeps secrets just to help the ones he loves. So he obviously isn't naive 90% of the time, but this is his main downfall.
But I think after the fic with Riku he... started to realize that that's not the way to go about things with certain people. It's just like you said: "If it works for Sora/others, then why wouldn't it work for Riku?" Though he tried to "become" Rob in order for Riku to get what he wants (as we all know, Anna likes to please everyone if that's at all possible), and now he got a slap in the face that he doesn't have to become another person in order to give someone happiness. Since it hurt Riku more than it helped, well. It's safe to say that he won't try that again, unless Riku approaches him and asks/implies. But he wouldn't because, you know, Riku loves Rob and all, and a part of Anna knows this all too well.
... hm. Though Anna wasn't hurt by this sudden realization. That what he thinks would work doesn't on some people. It's more like he's um. Surprised? Finally not 100% ignorant when it comes to dealing with such strong emotions. Usually he'd sit someone down and talk to them/ask them what's wrong, but if someone expresses a problem with somebody else, he resorts to doing the deed to, as I said before, give someone what they want the most. It just goes on in a full circle after that, yet I think he's slowly pulling himself away from that circle.
Hell, Anna might try to conversate more with Sora rather than jump on his lap and simply do what he's told because Sora seems happiest then. Part of him wants to inquire about this or that ("How is your day?" or "The weather is nice, isn't it?"), but then another part of him holds himself back, seeing as how Sora doesn't... really make much personal conversations with Anna. Or so I think, anyway.
Yeah, Sora talks to Anna more than he talks to anyone else, but to him he's talking to Roxas. Most of the time he yammers on about his work when they're finished & laying in bed (if Sora ever makes it to the bed, I mean), which is why Anna knows a lot about his work. This is a good thing, because it means he's more on the "inside" than anyone else. Anna isn't... manipulative, but he definitely can be if he wants to be. We'll see this later on when Anna steps in to take matters into his own hands in certain scenes.
That's it. More coming later when Anna springs more nonsense on me.
EDIT II; Anna... doesn't like change. At all. I think this mainly stems from his freakout/breakdown that made him realize that he'll never be what Sora made him to be. He's absolutely terrified of someone finding out about the "secret emotions" he keeps under lock & key, save for Riku, though he's a very special case. But having Rob know or Sora or even Simon and/or Oliver would just. Devastate him. He doesn't like knowing that he could be potentially disappointing someone, which is why he's such a perfectionist in the first place. A "Type A" personality when it comes to certain things, etc.
Because he doesn't like change, this forms into being in denial almost all the time. Yes, he definitely isn't in denial 24/7, since he does love and live life as much as humanly possible. It's just those times when he realizes that there's something "off" when it comes to his "perfect world." Hm. In a sense he's like Sora in this aspect. Sora lives in a dream world where everything will go right, he has a temporary Roxas, and then he'll have the real thing later on. As for Anna, well. He's got this thought that everything will be okay if he doesn't think about it. Suppressing his emotions/bad thoughts keeps him in check. Everything is sunshine and happy daisies after that.
Also, Anna has several boundaries that he's put up for himself. Like I said before about him talking to Sora and not just... flirting with him when alone, it's something Anna refuses to do, because it will tip the scale he so desperately balanced in the first place. There is no need to step beyond that, because if Sora is happy, then what does it matter, in the long-run. Sure, a part of him might try, but then he'd think he was being selfish and back off.
With Rob, well... we kind of already went over that. He likes giving/showing him affection rather than talk about things that are really, really serious. To him, it doesn't really matter if they talk about that stuff or not, because to him it doesn't "exist" enough for someone else to acknowledge it and then approach him about it. Which is another reason why he keeps things to himself. Maybe it's his way of "protecting" Rob, even if Rob doesn't need protection. Anna sort of puts it upon himself to do said protecting, though... that's possibly because he "controls" Sora. Or rather, he could if he wanted to, but he'd take any other route before pulling some strings here and there. He'd do it lightly as much as possible (aka inquiring about Simon and Oliver sharing a room together) in a harmless way, but. I'll have to wait and see if he does anything more than that. Knowing him he will definitely do something about Rob's "situation" when it comes about.
And with the others, he really does treat them like his younger siblings. Anna wants to keep them in the dark when it has to do with the "deep dark secrets" of the mansion, but really wants to introduce them to the things that are good about living there. Though I think Anna views the mansion as neither good nor bad, it's just... his home. Unfortunately, that home is more of a cage than an actual place that he lives inside of.
That brings me to the other topic at hand. I'm guessing Anna was actually pretty scared (& excited) stepping outside of the mansion for the first time. He was set in his decision, but he sort of hoped that someone else could have taken him along, like uh. Riku or something. But since he didn't come over that day, Anna realized that he'd have to do it by himself, which... took him a long time to do. Stalling, hesitating, stopping here and there to keep himself from shaking and/or running back. Though when he got closer, Anna realized that Rob was right around the corner. Rob is a safe haven for him, sorta.
... this is another reason why he gets so flustered/self-conscious when Rob presses him to go outside of his comfort zone. He starts acting differently, which confuses Anna greatly, and then he starts prodding where, in Anna's opinion, he shouldn't be prodding at. I think that scared him more than stepping outside of the mansion did. It won't stop him from loving/caring about Rob, but he's going to be weary of being alone with him for a while. If people are around then he can't inquire about anything too personal, etc.
Let's start on the “natural” side of him. Anna is obviously the “happy” one, or so X calls him, so it's no surprise that he's very out there and seems to be constantly excited/in a good mood.
