ON ROXAS (version 2)
(original) roxas
❖ Roxas had always been really special. From a young age Ansem slowly realized that he was pretty much a genius, thus he nudged him forward to do greater things and put him through private tutoring, etc. etc.
❖ His downfall, however, was his health. Roxas had been born two month premature and that rendered him pretty weak from the get-go. After that he slowly developed the disease that Ansem could never cure, which was just a timebomb waiting to go off. There's not much known about it other than the random symptoms that never seemed to add up, so year after year he just seemed to get worse and worse, up until he slipped into madness and then died.
❖ Roxas couldn't go outside for very long without getting ill, so 99% of the time he was stuck inside of his room, at the top floor of the mansion. He liked it because it had a nice view and thus let him see the outside world through that (see the connection to Anna that only strengthens their similarities).
❖ Ansem favored Roxas the most, which was why he got pampered so much to begin with. Not too sure about their mom (or who she even is to begin with/why she's not around anymore) but I have a feeling she kept close to Sora more than Roxas. No real favoritism there, tbh; Roxas understood since Ansem didn't hold back his own favoritism at all. Not that it really disturbed anything since Sora favored Roxas, too.
❖ He... had an interesting relationship with Sora, his older brother. Sora fawned over Roxas a lot and took care of him when he wasn't down at the labs with Ansem, but Roxas didn't seem to notice Sora's unhealthy obsession with him. In fact, he appreciated that Sora was always there the moment he needed him, but he also felt extremely guilty over this.
❖ On the topic of Sora, there was a role reversal in big brother-little brother, sort of. While Roxas was a genius by default, Sora actually had to work really hard to get to the level he was at when he could officially do the work Ansem set up. The time this changed was when Roxas couldn't follow up with Ansem's work (he was originally supposed to, not Sora), but because of being so sick all of the time, all he could do was read up on things and sometimes shuffle down to the lab up until he felt ill. Sora took the reigns instead in his place, and it created some sort of comfortable balance between them. Roxas was always smarter and the comforter, but when he got really sick, Sora was able to step up and be the big brother finally, more in feeling than anything else.
❖ Around the age of 10 is when he started getting really bad, I think, meaning he was mostly bedridden for three~four years before he died. He started to lose sensation/movement in his legs, too, hence sometimes needing to use a wheelchair when Sora took him outside.
❖ Despite popular belief, Roxas was just a normal boy. Genius or not, all he wanted to do was go outside and play, make some friends, go to a regular school-- just... the simple things in life, really, which he never got to experience.
❖ The connection between Roxas and X is very uh. Peculiar. Because X was formed through the disease (became the disease) and Roxas, he was inside of him as sort of a leech while Roxas was the host. After X "grew" and started to fully function inside Roxas' mind/body, that's when Roxas started slowly digressing to extreme sad/mad states, up until something just snapped and, well. That was the end of that.
