PR AU plottings by yours truly
OKAY I FIGURED SOME STUFF OUT-ish.
■ Instead of Anna taking over when their mother turns a certain age, what if it's when ANNA turns like. Eighteen or something? I imagine them being around 16 in this AU, though we never established said age. Still, it seems more plausible to me.
■ Maybe along the way Rob is spotted (with Riku) & since Rob has a mark on his head + Riku went missing, the person goes to tell the guards in his village since I'm preeeetty sure everything has been out to the open. There are like reward(s) for details/catching them.
■ Rob & Riku barely get out of that mess (maybe one gets away, to tell the queen[s] the 411), which is Riku's cue to say that something needs to be done (i.e. Rob's idea of staging his own death).
■ A month goes by & Riku is spotted with a ~masked man~ which uh. Makes people jump to conclusions. Rumors start up, people begin to say that RIKU is the one who murdered Rob (which would be plausible, seeing as how they ARE essentially from rivaling kingdoms) and the ~unknown man~ they saw was the person who helped him do it.
Word gets out to R&A's kingdom, Anna hears about this & yeah, he's pissed. Gonna say that he mourned for the longest time before RAGE, because he didn't have anything to rage at just yet (nobody was really to blame at the beginning, etc.), which means the following:
■ Basically their signals get crossed so it's sort of a... huge misunderstanding. Only not. If that makes any sense at all. Perhaps R&A's mom thinks that this was their (the other kingdom's) idea all along? To be sneaky bastards or... something like that.
But yes, when Anna hears about Riku & the ~masked man~ & how they "killed" Rob, that's why he'll be like WAR WAR WAR I WANT TO SEE BLOOD GD IT. Though if their mother doesn't want that (though at this point it might be a different story?) then Anna will remind her that they (the other kingdom) are probably staging their war tactics right now, that they need to have the upper hand, etc. Which is why Anna wants to announce it before THEY do, because uh. DIVINE JUSTICE.
So he's essentially going to be up against Rob and Riku, but he doesn't know it, of course.
■ ... hm hm hm. How about Riku and Rob (& the heir) thinks that everything is going pretty smoothly, then they come back and are like "SHIT WHAT'S GOING ON THERE'S A WAR?! WE WERE AWAY FOR LIKE, EVER, BUT SERIOUSLY, WHAT." Because I'm assuming they'd avoid all possible contact with anyone from anywhere & would take the "back roads", so to say. Which means they'd be lost from all human contact. No knowledge of a war even starting.
Though I'm going to say on the eve of the war Rob does the visiting thing, Anna BAWS and says he did a terrible thing (after Rob comes back he'll go back to being him, simply because he was only blinded by, you guessed it, RAGE), they hug and kiss and cuddle and lalala whatever.
THEN Rob can explain as much as he can for the night, which includes the heir. Now why the hell would we need an heir in the first place, other than her glaring at me in the back of my mind?
Well, for one Rob needs a good reason to run off. If he runs off just to run off it would be like... a spoiled kid not getting what he wants so he runs away from home. Sure, he has motives behind it, but I like the idea of him being tipped off. Anyway, I'm going to say that Anna once told Rob that he just wants everything to stay the same. That he selfishly wants them to just be them & let that be that. Basically he doesn't want to rule, and if he doesn't rule he doesn't want ROB to rule because it'll change everything. Though he knows he has to do it, which is why he doesn't rebel or anything. Take it in stride, etc. ... not that he's opposed to marrying Rob, of course, which he'd explain in full detail like the good boy he is, it's just that there are so many circumstances surrounding said marriage & the bad baggage that comes with it..
■ Hm. This makes me think that Anna... actually really does love their mother. A lot. Maybe he feels sorry for her in a lot of ways, but I get the feeling that he adores her because she IS his mother. Yet another reason why he lets her do what she pleases with him.
■ ... so back to the heir. Rob wouldn't want anything to happen to Anna, right? Knowing that Anna doesn't want that kind of life would fuel him to do something about it, obviously. So I think. Hm. The only peaceful way to go about it ('cause just flat-out attacking a kingdom without any motives behind it other than "I'm saving my brother from certain emotional doom" doesn't work) would to try to find someone who is rightfully supposed to take over. Their mother is old enough (not like, granny old, just oldER) and the heir is old enough to rightfully take over according to their laws, but then that's where the kingdom itself splits in half after Rob
SO BASICALLY:
1. R&A's mom tells Rob he's not a proper suitor/he's not a good image for them or w/e. Cue him being banashed from their kingdom.
2. Now that Rob can't really... do anything about that, he gets told about another child of the previous wife, smart Rob figures everything out (if he brings her back then their mother has to step down from the throne, meaning Anna would be safe, meaning they'd all live HAPPILY EVER AFTER~).
3. Rob leaves! Baw from Anna.
4. Anna, while Rob is gone, gets reeled into meeting people who will take Rob's place instead. He meets Riku, stuff happens, lalala Riku decided to go off to find Rob.
5. Riku finds Rob after x-amount of time & tells him what he needs to tell him. Like uh. What's going on, that R&A's mom is trying to find a proper suitor for Anna, that he was chosen as one of them but decided that he'd rather find Rob & tell him this 'cause he's... already met Anna and sort of understand that it's not what he wants.
6. Riku & Rob go along their merry little adventure ('cause Riku wants to stick around & help him whether he likes it or not, dohoho).
7. Someone spots Riku & Rob, they barely get out of THAT mess, which leads to them needing a cover-up somehow.
8. Cue Rob's faked death 'cause Riku just ran away, he isn't really... the biggest part of this mess. Meaning they're moreso after ROB, not him, and he's cocky and thinks it doesn't matter yadda yadda aka he's just being himself. [or insert ideas here]
9. Anna hears about Rob's death, time to mourn for over 9000 years, etc. he won't get pissed until he finds out WHO supposedly "killed him".
[this part needs more work... help help help help my brain is not working properly]
10. Along the way they get spotted again by someone from R&A's kingdom, but this time Riku is with hidden!Rob, who is mistaken for an assassin or something. Cue them thinking Riku's kingdom was out to get them the entire time, blah blah blah while Riku's kingdom is sort of uh. Behind on the times. News doesn't travel THAT quickly in such a small span of time. They still think Rob manipulated Riku somehow, etc. they're still pissed about that.
[/end needing more work]
11. Rob finds the heir, they're going back to the kingdom finally, and they go home only to notice that... there's something off. Why in the world are there soldiers everywhere, etc.
[dunno if we need to add some more stuff here or something 'cause from #11 onward either needs some work or something sigh]
12. Rob ninjas in the palace to find Anna, they have their moment, then... something.
12b. Possibly change this?? Or leave it? Or HALP.

A. Riku's kingdom hears that he was spotted with Rob, which makes the king & queen RAGE. Not at Riku because I imagine they're very prideful (imagining them being the type to defend anything in THEIR kingdom 'cause THEY'RE never wrong), but because he's with ROB. They'll probably think that Rob was the one who ~lured him in~ and this will make them even more pissed.
B. R&A's kingdom hears about Riku being around Rob, cue more RAGE because, well. They're both not exactly... the type of people who are great representatives of their kingdom(s). Rob is basically a betrayer & Riku is as well. But the rules of said kingdoms are prideful, meaning there is no way in hell either is going to say "YEAH LET'S TEAM UP TEEHEE~" Too much conflict between them to begin with.
■ Basically their signals get crossed so it's sort of a... huge misunderstanding. Only not. If that makes any sense at all. Perhaps R&A's mom thinks that this was their (the other kingdom's) idea all along? To be sneaky bastards or... something like that.
