[ spring had always been the best time for naps outside, whether it be basking in the warm sun or lying under a tree; it didn't matter to brianna, just as long as she could fall into a light slumber before going home. but today she had dazed and wandered off from her last lesson after being excused to use the restroom, almost forgetting completely on why she was out of her classroom to begin with.

a large tree a few yards away from the school itself was one of her favorite spots. the petals that were freshly bloomed were tinted in pinks and light reds, staining the lush, green earth that she was currently spread upon. her body was half-curled yet open enough to seem as if she were just lying there and nothing more, but she was in a deep slumber, her breathing even & her lips slightly parted.

it was there that she unknowingly waited for her prince to come. ]

[ & he does wander into the field eventually, long after everyone else has left the building. looks a little nervous to be venturing out into one of the places he normally avoids (it is both alien & most likely forbidden to him). finds her soon enough, easy enough to spot in the middle of all the green. sighs out an annoyed breath while trying not to think about the stern look of disapproval he'll go going home to, dutifully approaching the shades in the meanwhile. leans down a bit when he gets within two arms length, hands braced on his knees.

it is only her steady breathing that tips him away from panic (still alive, not like him; thoughts for a dreary day) when he realizes that she's sleeping. hesitates a little, unsure how to go about this, before he finally speaks. ]

Hey, we have to go.

[ stirs when she hears his voice, slowly opening her eyes as she shifts to lay on her back. blinks back the sleepy haze that still lingers on her expression, an arm bracing herself against the ground as she finally sits up.

instead of saying anything she blinks over at albert a bit lazily, head tilted slightly to the side. ]

[ leans back, straightening, fidgeting where he stands nervously. takes an experimental step back. ]

I'm going home.

[ it takes her a moment but she stands as well, some of the petals coming along for the ride in her hair. looks at him expectantly, a hand reaching out half-way towards him. ]

[ finally allows himself to smile, sighing in relief as he takes her hand. this is familiar, this is on track. tugs her along across the field, leading them back into the building. ]

I got my test back today.

[ peers at him curiously, finally speaking. ]

What did you get?

Um. [ fidgets again, making him stumble in his next step. ]

An A-. Do you... think he'd be mad?

No. [ an automatic response, a small shake of her head. ] That's good.

[ nods absently, though not too convinced. keeps his eyes lowered to the ground as they continue to walk, gnawing on his lower lip in thought, his grip tightening slightly. ]

[ looks at him in the corner of her eye, shifting her own gaze down in thought. when they get further inside of the building she starts walking towards her classroom, tugging albert along without much thought. ]

[ follows without arguing, though he blinks a bit in confusion & curiosity. doesn't voice it, however, trusting her. ]

[ eventually she stops in front of her classroom's door, reaching out a hand to open it. the few students left in there look up, make a face, then go back to their business. is not fazed by this, however, simply letting go of albert's hand so she could walk to her desk. looks at her backpack for a brief second but does not pick it up right away, almost as if she's observing something silently.

nabs it & puts it on before circling around the desks. takes his hand again, giving him a look that says "i'm ready". ]

[ evades the other students' looks by looking away from them & to his feet, followed by looking out the window. so it takes him a while before he notices that brianna's movements have stopped & another moment for his thoughts to catch up to him. with a quick nod, he takes up her hand again & walks away without bothering to close the nod. ]

[ follows obediently, shuffling her feet a bit as they walk along. hums to herself a nameless tune in the meanwhile, her free hand toying with the strap of her backpack. ]

[ slows his pace when he hears the humming, his nerves soothing itself out under the melody. ]

[ continues the song as they move along, not paying much attention to her surroundings at the moment. it is only after a few minutes when she turns her head slightly to look at him but does not saying anything, just giving a considering look. ]

[ does not seem to notice, as he is used to her silences. stops at the crossroad, looking at the stoplight, shuffling his feet in restlessness. ]

[ she looks away when the light signals to them that it is safe to go, continuing their silence and peaceful atmosphere for a while longer.

barely blinks when she notices the low-cut fencing they approach that surrounds a house, suddenly hopping up onto it to walk along that path instead, fingers slipping to only connect them by a few fingers as to not drag albert along with her. ]

[ looks up at her briefly, shaken alert by her sudden movement. watches for a moment longer before he traces the length of the fence beyond them with his eyes; does a little shrug, more for himself than for her, as he turns back to his own path. keeps his arm a little elevated to maintain the connection even as his eyes wander away to his side, watching the people & scenery with apt attention despite having seen it day after day. ]

[ watches his face instead of her steps for the moment, trusting her feet to carry her where she needs to go. when they come to the end of the house she steps down in one fluent motion, looking straight ahead when she speaks: ]

Hungry.

Me too. But we'll be home soon.

[ nods once and lets that be that. it's only a while later that the mansion is in sight, though her pace is still even as she begins to think about things, allowing herself to get lost in them & daze in the process. ]

[ stiffens his spine as not to slouch when he sees the mansion, tugging his hand away from hers when they are within reach of the door. pushes inside & sets his bag aside next to the coat hanger, giving brianna a fleeting look over the shoulder before he rushes away to the doctor's study downstairs. ]

[ watches him go with barely any interest involved, setting her own backpack aside. glances at the note written there by one of the other students in her class, the one word--witch--standing out enough for her to stare at it for a while again.

removes it and walks towards the kitchen, tearing it up before sprinkling the torn shreds into the trashcan. peers down at it, blinking. eventually turns the other way to make something to eat, setting out two plates on the table; one has a sandwich on it and the other has a green apple.

reaches for the knife next to her plate and begins to cut the apple, giving herself something to do as she waits for albert to return. ]

[ his report is short & succinct, just as told, his test results crumpled in his right fist as he listens to the doctor repeat words of disappointment; the very words that he has been dreading. keeps his eyes to the floor, nodding when necessary, waiting it out until finally, he hears the words of dismissal with a gruff order -- you must be better.

& he will, he tells himself as he closes the door to the study behind him. breathes out, trying to steel himself while making his way to the kitchen. ]
