[ spring had always been the best time for naps outside, whether it be basking in the warm sun or lying under a tree; it didn't matter to brianna, just as long as she could fall into a light slumber before going home. but today she had dazed and wandered off from her last lesson after being excused to use the restroom, almost forgetting completely on why she was out of her classroom to begin with.

a large tree a few yards away from the school itself was one of her favorite spots. the petals that were freshly bloomed were tinted in pinks and light reds, staining the lush, green earth that she was currently spread upon. her body was half-curled yet open enough to seem as if she were just lying there and nothing more, but she was in a deep slumber, her breathing even & her lips slightly parted.

it was there that she unknowingly waited for her prince to come. ]

[ looks down at her lap in thought, taking her time with his question. shakes her head after a moment of debate. ]

I... am not sure.

[ puts the sandwich down onto his plate, hands curling into slight fists of worry. ]

Was it me...?

[ allows her gaze to return back to him again, a considering look in her eyes. shifts so she can reach over with some ease to gently stroke the side of his face once, the tips of her fingers lingering on his chin before she simply says: ]

No.

[ pulls back again and sits neatly in her seat again, smoothing out the edges of her skirt. ]

[ startles at the touch, but leans into it when he's past the surprise, face following her fingers briefly when it leaves. lowers his eyes when something warm flutters in his chest, smiling even as his head cranes downward toward his lap. fists ease back into palms, his worries addressed. ]

[ notices the smile, looking down at her own lap in thought. slips out of her seat again, cheeks a bit warm as her eyes continue to stay towards the floor. ]

... I am thirsty, though. What would you like?

[ looks up, lips pursing briefly in thought. ]

Um. Apple juice, please.

[ nods and goes away briefly to get him some, pouring herself a glass of water in passing. returns shortly after to set albert's drink next to his plate, backtracking a bit to sit and take a sip of her water. ]

[ takes multiple mouthfuls, liking the way that the coolness soothed his throat. ]

You're welcome.

[ sets her glass on the table, not drinking anymore of it for now. instead stares at it as it starts to fog up, tracing her fingers against the chilled surface to create shapes upon it. ]

[ one more gulp & his glass is empty. leans back in his chair with a sigh, suitably satiated. looks surprised when he suddenly yawns, blinking a little. ]

[ tilts her head at his yawn, curiosity piqued for the moment. ]

Tired?

Mm... I think so.

[ does not take her time in standing after he speaks, picking up both the plates and glasses. gives him a look before walking to the sink to clean up the mess. ]

[ snaps out of his daze to get noisily onto his feet with the intent to help. ]

[ begins her work and blinks when she hears albert scramble, not moving (or making room) as she says: ]

Nap?

[ swallows the instinctive spike of fear & shakes his head. ]

Not... Not by myself? [ a faint blush spreads across his face when the statement comes across as a (hopeful) question instead, forcing his gaze down to the floor. ]

[ finishes her work without another word, wiping her hands off when she's finished. steps towards him and stretches out a hand, her eyes connecting with his as she answers his question by one look alone. ]

[ takes her hand & grips at it, almost afraid that she'd let go. the next words come out in an attempt to reassure himself, even when his original aim had been to reassure her instead. ]

We'll be okay.

[ gives him another knowing look, stepping a bit closer at his side so that she could gently put her head on his shoulder in her own version of reassurance, eyes slipping closed. ]

[ withdraws his hand from hers so that he can wrap his arms around her, gathering her into a light hug that speaks further of his worries. breathes out brief laughter. ]

Kinda weird, huh...?

[ welcomes the hold fully without question, her own hands gently gripping him back. murmurs into his shoulder, face slightly turned towards his collarbone. ]

Y- Yeah. Um, not normal? Probably. I'm... [ presses his face into her hair, the hold turning into more of a cling. next few words comes out an inaudible mumble, comprehensible only to his ears. then, more clearly: ]

You... don't think so?

[ listens to him carefully, taking in his words and soaking in them. doesn't speak for a while, forehead touching his neck as she concentrates on her thoughts. finally speaks clearly, simply: ]

... no.

[ finally shifts her arms so she could hold onto him properly, leaning into him as if saying "i need this too" yet does not speak those words, letting her body say it instead. ]

No, Albert. [ closes her eyes again, shaking her head slightly. ] You are my prince.

... oh. [ seems to think about this & then smiles, despite not getting it fully -- not yet. shyly, slowly, releases her, looking at her face only briefly afterward due to embarrassment. ]
