[ the weeks seemed to drag by so slowly for him whilst robert were away, having little-to-no interest in the happenings around him throughout the duration of the other boy's leave. more often than not he would be seated by his window, gaze locked on the path that robert would surely return on. it was there that he stayed for most of his days, leaving it only to eat, bathe, or when his mother summoned him. regardless he would put on a smile for those around him, as if nothing was amiss and would say that his brother would surely return soon, that he would be gone for only a short while.

that short while turned into weeks. months. far longer than robert had ever been gone before. on his bad days he wondered if his brother had grown tired of his position (of their situation) and thus would not return for good, but those thoughts were always shadowed by the hope and faith he had in his prince. surely the day of his return would come.

opens his eyes slowly when the sound of music reaches his ears again, lifting his gaze back up towards the crowd of dancing people before him. after some time of simply gazing he sits up straighter in his chair, the one that is forever to his mother's right. does not look at her as she speaks to someone, his curiosity nonexistent. instead he raises his glass and slips at the liquid inside, going back to his silent thinking (of robert, of other things that had been on his mind for quite some while) as a somewhat glazed look overcomes his features once more. ]

Mmm, yes, he would be quite upset to see such things, after all.

Quite upset is a rather severe understatement.

What would you be willing to call it, then?

Murderous.

Oh dear... we will have to keep this a very well-kept secret, then.

That would be much appreciated.

[ at that he smiles gently, lifting his arms up a bit before speaking. ]

Come here.

[ raises a brow in curiosity before she dislodges herself from the doorway to make way toward annabelle. ]

Yes, princess?

[ takes her hands into both of his own when she's close enough. ]

Have you forgotten already? You are to be spoiled. You must be close enough to allow me to spoil you.

[ grips at his hand back gently. ]

In this position? It's rather uncomfortable, no?

[ hums in consideration. ]

Then where shall we go, Alicia?

Hmm. . . [ glances around a little, then gives a short shrug before plopping herself down onto the floor in front of annabelle. looks up, smiles. ]

Here, like this, should suffice, I suppose.

[ laughs lightly at that, removing his hands from hers to place them into her hair gently. ]

"I suppose", she says.

[ leans slightly against that hand. ]

It's passable at best.

[ quirks an eyebrow, his voice taking on a teasing edge as he begins to stroke her hair. ]

And quite fitting, correct?

[ rests her head lightly against one of annabelle's knee, eyes closing as her voice drops a touch. ]

Yes. It is as it should be.

[ smile takes on a softer edge at that, though it does not leave him despite understanding the implications of her words. continues his ministrations, murmuring. ]

What are you thinking about?

Truthfully? Nothing too deep, at the moment. [ hums out a pleased sigh. ] You are quite skilled at this.

[ runs a few fingers through her hair, loosening the strands more. ]

I have many years of practice.

[ eyes slip closed contently. ]

That, I cannot doubt.

Then I hope I may continue this practice whilst Robert is away.

With me as the practice subject?

Of course. [ pushes some hair behind her ear. ] I only do this with the people I care for the most, after all.

Is that a hidden compliment I sense?

Hidden? No. I have not a reason to hide compliments from those who are worthy.
