[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

Do you need me to get someone to help you?

[ smiles ruefully. ]

Maybe, if the professor still haven't gotten used to my chicken scratches. I'll let you know. [ short pause. ] Thanks.

Or I could go scold your professor for you, whichever. [ looks down at alice when she doesn't hear the pages of the album turning anymore, amused that she's starting to nod off again. ] But for now, I think I need to get the little one into bed.

[ looks down at alice & quirks a small smile. ]

Good idea. [ carefully closes the album so that alice can be extracted with little trouble. ] You want to take the rest of the cheesecake?

[ shakes her head, reaching over to lift her daughter up into her arms. ]

I'm sure she'll want to come over again soon, if you're not busy. Save it until then.

[ sets the album aside & gets to his feet, intending to walk them out. ]

Alright. Sometime this week?

[ tilts downward to grab her purse, lifting it onto her shoulder. adjusts alice before walking to the door. ]

In a few days, probably. [ pauses in saying anything else for a moment, and then: ] I'll be sure to call first this time.

[ snorts softly in amusement. ]

That'd be appreciated. [ reaches over to give alice's head one last pat. ] Or give me a specific day and I'll book it off for you two.

[ reaches out to unlock and open the door when she's standing in front of it, stepping outside. ]

Maybe we'll go out next time, if your busy schedule allows.

[ leans against the doorway a little. ]

Sounds good. I could always use more fresh air.

[ nods before she leans forward to press a kiss on his forehead, pulling back to offer a softer smile. ]

Have a good night. Be sure to call me tomorrow to tell me how your meeting with your supervisor went, alright?

[ returns the smile, nodding. ]

Yeah, always. [ steps back so that he can close the door when they depart. ] Good night.

[ turns to make her final exit when the door is shut, carefully holding onto her daughter as she makes her way out to the car. when she has alice strapped in and ready to go she's taking a glance at the apartment complex again, sighing lightly and shaking her head at her brother's (unhealthy) antics.

buckles herself in as she dismisses those thoughts, smiling at the sleeping girl in her car seat before making her way out onto the street to head on home. ]
