[ four weeks. that's how long he's known her, only it wasn't quite a two-way street just yet. in fact, he hadn't even been able to work up the courage to talk to her in the month that he's "known" the girl. instead he made it a habit to sit on his stupid bench that she always passed by when going to and from classes, unwilling to miss a chance to see her whenever possible. (not that the bench he claimed was his in the first place, but he'd like to think otherwise. nobody else sat there! so it was okay to say it was his, right...? ... no. probably not. he'll just say that he's borrowing it. sorry, other people who sit there when he's not around. he didn't mean to be so stingy.)

today is no exception, knowing that the rare human-bird species beautiful bird-lady that's so lovely what's her name? he needs to know-- girl would be coming around in the next hour or so. (class was let out early, so it's okay to be early too. he didn't just sit there for her, after all! maybe.) so he sets up camp at his usual place, beaming when he realizes that there are some birds gathered around the area. (there are bread crumbs on the ground! someone must have been feeding them. this is good, he likes when the birds feel welcome!) so today is a two-for-one deal, he thinks, placing his messenger bag on the bench before pulling out his (rather tattered-looking) moleskine sketchbook and turning to a new page.

feels elated when even more birds come around to peck at the ground, carefully reaching into his bag to grab some of the bird food he carries around with him for times like these. (here you go, my friends! is this to your tastes? it's okay, i won't hurt you. see, i'll toss it closer to you than me!) his smile widens when the birds seem content enough to stay around him, slowly grabbing a pencil to begin his work and wait for his mystery bird-girl. ]

[ breaking into school after finals week definitely wasn't the best or brightest idea lyssa had ever had, but it was something he felt like he had to do with amanda, if only to complete his task that he was unable to go through with on prom night. it still made him feel bad whenever he thought about it, even if they had repaired amanda's (mom's mom's) dress after finding someone who could restore it properly, but still... though it wasn't like he didn't bother to talk to the girls who were to blame in the first place, of course. that wasn't a pretty discussion (he had never felt so angry towards the opposite sex before; it just wasn't in his nature, let alone hold any animosity towards anyone to begin with) but he got his point across. that was enough for him, just as long as they kept their distance. (and they did.)

nonetheless, it was lyssa's turn to do something mischievous of his own, even if he had easily gotten the keys to the school from one of the board members that his dad knew pretty well. usually he didn't bother to use those kinds of things to his advantage, but, well... albert would understand. probably just smile at lyssa and raise an eyebrow at his uncharacteristic antics. his mom would surely be amused, too. (she had always been the same way, after all. just another trait he had received from her.)

with that in mind (and his muse's hand tightly grasped into one of his own) he moves slowly and carefully around the school, almost as if they were on some secret mission. (nobody was even around, he just felt like having even more fun.) as they're walking around, he whispers over to his friend: ]

Now remember, if we get split up and someone catches you, just scream "ponies!" and I'll be there in a flash!

[ it's after his meet-up with his supervisor that he gets a call from robin to babysit alice. of course he says 'yes' -- he has nothing planned for the day & would never consciously turn down time with his niece. & like he told robin before, more free air should do him some good; who knows, if he's feeling better in mind, the body might follow. (he didn't really believe that since the damage from the accident has been said to be absolute, but a little bit of feigned hope wasn't too heavy to carry around.)

that's the context to their current scenario: at the park with alice, doing whatever she wants until it's time for lunch & ice cream. time with uncle nick is the time to get spoiled, so he doesn't worry too much about feeding her nutritional things; he's pretty sure his mom sis has that covered anyway. ]

[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

[ after albert and brianna declared their plans to go out on a date for the rest of the evening, she took it upon herself to personally watch lyssa until they returned home, despite her former plans with her boyfriend. it's with that change (and realization of what she did at the very last moment) that she calls up caleb to tell him the news, sounding disappointed until she gleefully casually suggested that he come over to help. after some convincing that yes, albert won't be here and yes, she'll wait for him by the door, is done and over with, she happily skips down the stairs after telling lyssa's personal ninja butler that she'll be back shortly.

plops down on the second to last step of the stairs while happily swaying and humming to herself, her eyes planted on the doorway to wait for caleb to enter. ]
