[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.
... oh well.
hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--
... oh well.
she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

when they pull up to her apartment complex he doesn't unlock the doors just yet. instead he leans back in his seat, feeling distinctly guilty. after fiddling with his hands a little: ]
... sorry. For dragging you along. I thought it would be okay, but...
no subject
It's not your fault. [ the dress being ruined isn't okay, but-- it's still not lyssa's fault & if she keeps saying it, then she means it. she'll repair the dress one way or another. ]

Thank you for coming along with me.

You're welcome. [ she's a little sorry about how lyssa's prom turned out, but-- she knows that that's not her fault either. maybe they can make it up with a dance in college or something. like a victory-slash-introduction thing... ]

Do you want me to come up with you? We can do adult things, like cuddle and watch some pony films.
no subject
I don't mind, but. . . [ didn't lyssa have that after party with his family happening...? ]
no subject
My party isn't until we actually graduate, so it'll be in another week or so. I'm totally free, if you want some company.
no subject
Okay. [ short pause. ] I'll make us something to eat too. [ since they had to leave prom before they could... well, anything. ]
no subject
What did you have in mind?
no subject
I think we have chicken left over. [ so maybe she can make something with that. ]
no subject
Sounds pretty good to me!
no subject
Would that be enough? [ she could make sandwiches too. ]

like a happy puppy. ]It's fine. I gotta watch my figure, after all.
no subject
I don't think you gotta worry. [ good genes & all that. ]

You never know. I could be the exception once I hit twenty.
no subject
Family history doesn't lie.

The exception to the rule. [ which means that lyssa is safe 'cause there already is an exception. ]
no subject
I suppose you're right...

no subject
Well that's perfectly alright. [ scoots closer to push his face into her hair, rubbing his nose into
the poofit. ] I like you just the way you are.no subject
... only lyssa, dad & her new boss does, probably. like her the way she is, she means. that's okay, but she'd really wish people would just leave her alone if she's not liked. ah, teenage years -- she can't wait for them to be over, lyssa. her dad's always said that college is more fun in every way. ]
I know. Thanks. [ tilts a bit so that she can push her nose into his shoulder a little. lyssa liking the way she is gives her more incentive to stay the same too. even if she won't wear any of the really nice dresses for a while... ]

a part of him knows that it hasn't been easy for amanda. being different always came with its setbacks, and he knows he's lucky to be born... well, the way he was. it's not like he didn't know about his own privileges, but he was more aware of the fact that he can't just come into someone's life and save them. (he's not a white knight, nor a prince of any kind.) so the only thing he could think of was to stay with amanda regardless, just as long as she remains happy.
smiles a little to himself at that thought, reaching out to press the button to amanda's floor number. he takes a glance down at her and squeezes her hand gently, concluding that going to her school of choice was the best idea for both of them.
but for now? it's time for some chicken and ponies. ]
