[ it's after his meet-up with his supervisor that he gets a call from robin to babysit alice. of course he says 'yes' -- he has nothing planned for the day & would never consciously turn down time with his niece. & like he told robin before, more free air should do him some good; who knows, if he's feeling better in mind, the body might follow. (he didn't really believe that since the damage from the accident has been said to be absolute, but a little bit of feigned hope wasn't too heavy to carry around.)
that's the context to their current scenario: at the park with alice, doing whatever she wants until it's time for lunch & ice cream. time with uncle nick is the time to get spoiled, so he doesn't worry too much about feeding her nutritional things; he's pretty sure hismom sis has that covered anyway. ]

What's so funny?

Nothing. You're just considerate. I like that about you.

They're family.

Couldn't have said it better. [ watches the nudging & raises an eyebrow. ] What, not hungry?

Just tired. I woke up early to work on a few projects that are due after break, then I had to go babysit in the afternoon. I took a nap after that, but it wasn't very long. [ raises a hand, giving him a thumbs up. ] But I like satisfying, productive days!

You could have come over tomorrow, you know.

But I really wanted to see you today...

Fine, fine. I'll go home and sleep after I eat.

. . . You can come back tomorrow if you want.

You're not busy?

Then I'll come over tomorrow. [ another nom. ] I'll make you lunch, too.

Alright, but be prepared to take some of that home.

I'll go pack some up and wash the dishes, then.

You made the food. I'll do the dishes.

Well, thank you! [ points over to the couch. ] I'll do more of my assignment while I wait, if that's okay with you.

& that's the last thoughts he'll have for the time being, rolling onto his side to snuggle his face into the couch cushion, arms loosely holding onto his sketchbook as he succumbs to slumber with a smile on his face. ]

this is what he'd been talking about.
shaking his head with a sigh, he considers several options. then seems to settle on the one that entails him carefully hefting the boy into his arms. (the kid's not heavy, but nick's never really been one for strength, so he could probably manage this for maybe... a minute or so before he starts to tire, most likely.) careful not to jar lyssa, he moves into the single bedroom to
plopplace him down on the mattress & put a blanket over him.breathing out another sigh, he quirks a small smile at the drooling & gives lyssa's hair a short ruffle before moving to close the blinds. after grabbing his sketchbook & pencil case, he closes the door to the room so that lyssa can sleep undisturbed while he settles down on his couch to sketch out his ideas, feeling full & content. ]
