[ four weeks. that's how long he's known her, only it wasn't quite a two-way street just yet. in fact, he hadn't even been able to work up the courage to talk to her in the month that he's "known" the girl. instead he made it a habit to sit on his ~~stupid~~ bench that she always passed by when going to and from classes, unwilling to miss a chance to see her whenever possible. (not that the bench he claimed was his in the first place, but he'd like to think otherwise. nobody else sat there! so it was okay to say it was his, right...? ... no. probably not. he'll just say that he's borrowing it. sorry, other people who sit there when he's not around. he didn't mean to be so stingy.)

today is no exception, knowing that the ~~rare human-bird species~~ ~~beautiful bird-lady that's so lovely~~ ~~what's her name? he needs to know--~~ girl would be coming around in the next hour or so. (class was let out early, so it's okay to be early too. he didn't just sit there for her, after all! ~~maybe.~~) so he sets up camp at his usual place, beaming when he realizes that there are some birds gathered around the area. (there are bread crumbs on the ground! someone must have been feeding them. this is good, he likes when the birds feel welcome!) so today is a two-for-one deal, he thinks, placing his messenger bag on the bench before pulling out his (rather tattered-looking) moleskine sketchbook and turning to a new page.

feels elated when even more birds come around to peck at the ground, carefully reaching into his bag to grab some of the bird food he carries around with him for times like these. (here you go, my friends! is this to your tastes? it's okay, i won't hurt you. see, i'll toss it closer to you than me!) his smile widens when the birds seem content enough to stay around him, slowly grabbing a pencil to begin his work and wait for his mystery bird-girl. ]

[ aww... but that's okay. the backseat might be safer. as long as she doesn't get motion sick enough to not enjoy the thai-to-come. ]

That's okay. All seats look comfortable.

[ smiles at that and lifts his hand to stroke her ~~poof~~ hair again, giving brendan a look to signal for him to follow them when he starts leading them towards his car. (well, he might've not been completely honest with amanda, but it'll do good in the long-run. or so he hopes. he'll have to do some serious work on their new friend, too...)

presses the button on his keyring to unlock the doors of his car when they arrive, popping open the driver's side's door so he can place his bag on the seat there. it doesn't take him very long to deposit the posters and other misc items into the passenger's side, dusting his hands off on his pants before gesturing inside. ]

Your carriage awaits.

[ doesn't hesitate at all in shuffling on over to the car, going around it as to open the further door to slip inside. (this is only polite, right? that's what her dad said one time...) tucks her bag on her lap & then clicks the seatbelt in place, leaning back against the seat. ]

[ and in this corner, he looks like he's hesitate a bit. or a lot. (that's a really expensive-looking car... w-what if i drop something and i ruin the seat?! wait i don't think i have anything to drop. i left my case of supplies at his apartment, didn't i? i think so. i'll check.) quickly rummages in his bag to confirm, sighing in relief when it's not there. (okay, everything will be fine. just sit there and relax and don't touch anything and--)

those thoughts stop when he realizes, once again, that he's sitting next to her!! tries not to show it, though, quickly looking away and out the window. it's only after the car starts and they're on the road does he kick himself to talk to her more. (they said they wanted to be friends, but this could be the only time we really talk... i should say something!)

gaze goes back to amanda, fidgeting a bit in his seat. ]

Um. I haven't had Thai food in a long time... what do you usually get?

[ blinks. well, her choice is pretty boring, but it usually comes with peanuts, so-- ]

Pad thai. You?

[ (when was the last time i had thai food? in middle school? oh, no, it was probably sometime in high school... freshman year? yeah, freshman year! but what did i get? i don't remember the menu at all, it's been so long. but i don't want to look stupid in front of her... come on, self, think of something!)

after a moment, a little weakly: ]

Fried... rice...?

[ oblivious to his internal strife, she just nods in acceptance. a perfectly fine answer -- fried rice is also really good. ]

I like that too.

R-Really? [ (ah-! she likes something i like! maybe if i ask her more questions--) pauses to shake his head a little bit, briefly staring down into his lap. (no, take it slow! slow is good! you're finally talking to her, after all. that's an accomplishment in itself!) not that he can come up with anything good, which is reinforced when he lifts his gaze again and lets his mouth run: ] Do you get anything else in it? Egg? Meat? Birds-- I mean! Chicken? I don't eat chicken, but it's okay if you do!

[ somehow, 'peanuts' don't sound as good... so uh. improvise! ]

Just how they usually make it. So. . . eggs. [ & peanuts! but she'll tell him that a little later. she should add something else though, huh? ] They're good for you?

Eggs are good... I'm okay with eggs. [ looks a little conflicted for a moment. ] Most of the time...

[ ...

honestly, he feels the need to give them both a lesson on proper conversation skills after listening to their so-called 'conversation'. being around amanda alone for so long made him forget how little she actually spoke, but he's confident that their new friend will pick on things as they go along. maybe. hopefully. ]

[ just decides to drive faster, thankful that the restaurant isn't too far away, so they arrive there pretty quickly without any trouble. steps out of the car once they're parked, smiling widely. ]

We have arrived!

[ wiggles out of the car, shutting the door behind himself as he looks at the outside of the restaurant. side-glances amanda quickly before following lyssa when he begins to move, murmuring a thanks when he opens the door for them both. waits quietly for them to be seated as lyssa yammers about something-or-other to amanda, shifting a little into the chair once they've been escorted to their table.

blinks down at the table and peeks into the menu curiously... ]

[ watches brendan for a moment, tilting his head to the side at his antics. after a moment: ]

Get anything you'd like! It's my treat. [ over to amanda: ] You too, missy.

[ opens the menu. glances at it just to make sure that they have pad thai & then closes it. that takes about... several seconds. this cannot be a thai place without the pad thai! but it's never too silly to double-check! ]

Pad thai please.

[ nods in acknowledgement, turning to brendan next. ]

Take your time in deciding. We've got nowhere to be, unless you have a class you need to get to soon.

[ shakes his head. ]

N-No, not at all! But are you sure it's okay? I could pay...

Of course it's okay, I've got enough for us all. [ briefly glances at the waiter who comes by with their water to offer a thanks. ] You can treat us to ice cream some other time.

[ hey! this is a conversation starter, right? c'mon, self! ]

--Do you have any favourite ice cream places?

[ blinks over at her, a little surprised at the question. when he settles back into the right line of thought: ]

Um... there's this little place near my grandparent's house that sells ice cream. It's really good...

[ reaches for her water. ]

Can we go try that next time?

[ !!!!! (S-SHE WANTS TO VISIT?! no, she wants to go to get ice cream! ice cream, with me! and lyssa, but that's okay, too! i like lyssa! b-but this is wonderful, it's like a dream come true-!!)

ahem. nods furiously. ]

O-Of course! I'd be delighted!

[ victory! --she did good, right, lyssa? ]

Okay. Next time. [ when they're all free. but that shouldn't be too hard to coordinate. exams won't for another few weeks, right? ]
