ON OLIVER (version 2)
young!oliver
● Terribly shy & stutters when he speaks. I think this is mainly from him just being so... nervous/has no confidence in himself rather than an actual speech impediment. There's obviously still some of that in there, but him being so "kdjnfvjkdfd" most of the time just amplifies it tenfold.
● His curly hair/poor eyesight is connected to him being uh. The flawed one of the five in terms of physical "defects." Since Sora was mainly focused on their personalities being right, I don't think he would've done much else but be like "hm..." and try to figure out what went wrong when he isn't so "/HEAVY BREATHING" over getting Roxas back.
● Is incredibly clumsy. Trips over his own two feet, etc.
● Apologizes a lot, almost to the point of it being annoying.
● Can't smile because his emotions are not developed enough yet for him to feel happiness.
● He walks a fine line between being scared of people in general and the urge to meet their needs, which usually ends up in his downfall either way. Oh, Oliver.
● Wears only black and white (dark blue for jeans.) Does not really enjoy showing his skin, so his normal clothing is very conservative. Usually wears a white dress shirt and either black or dark blue pants. He's very uh. Plain, haha. Wouldn't put on anything else himself unless someone requested him to do so.
● Can't... comprehend certain things. I don't think he was properly developed in terms of his thought process (his mind, the parts of the brain that help you understand & learn), because Oliver can't get very far when it comes to comprehension. I'm pretty sure he did rather poorly when PR!Riku was teaching him this and that or whatever, didn't understand things and had to have them be repeated. Again, Sora was going for personality & since Oliver was the last to come out it wasn't such a big deal to him. Plus I think it's a mix between being DERP in the brain and his personality for not having the mental capacity that everyone else seems to have. It's just... who he is.
● Because of the above point, Oliver gets confused a lot & asks questions/needs a confirmation and/or for someone to further explain things for him. See someone saying something, he says "really?", etc. so on and so forth.
● HOWEVER, Oliver does not question people on their motives and/or what they tell him to do. Ever. He'll only say "okay" and do it, even if it's scary and/or something he just doesn't want to do. So he leaves things up to other people. That and he's a gigantic pushover, haha.
● He doesn't have a will of his own. At all. Again, he'd rather have someone tell him what to do because he doesn't know what to do with himself to begin with. If left all alone he'd probably just sit there quietly or nod off after a while.
● Has a very simple outlook on life. He's honestly a pretty simple person with very simple needs. Oliver doesn't need very much because he doesn't know how to be happy just yet. He's just sort of... there.
● Oliver likes chewing on the ends of his sleeve/thumbnail when he's nervous. D'aw.
● Oliver... sucks his thumb at night baw. It's sort of a comforting thing? Plus he's still the "baby" of the five, so. Yes. Augh why Oliver WHY.
● Is the most unattached one of the five, meaning that he doesn't feel enough want to have that pull/need to stay with someone emotionally. So he'd get confused if one person wanted him and another wanted him just as much; he has no opinion. It isn't that he's indifferent, really, he
● Does not have a mean bone in his body. He would never intentionally hurt someone, though he tip-toes around people so much that I don't think he could ever unintentionally hurt someone. Unless, of course, his "indifferent" (aka Oliver indifference, not the normal type of indifference normal people have) nature throws someone off and/or dissapoints/hurts them without knowing. 'Cause without direction he'll resort to his "I don't know"s and "Sorry"s.
● He has an extreme fear of physical pain. I'm not sure why (did something happen or is it just a phobia or...?) but he'd rather take an emotional/mental beating than being physically hurt. This will be a very important element for his two meetings with X, especially the last one.
Though adding onto that, I think this is the only time he'd ask (beg) for someone to stop. If someone was inflicting physical pain on him, I mean. In the EXTREME cases he'd go into a sort of manic/hysteric state. It's really weird & something I actually still need to look into despite knowing this already, but it's so far out of his normal that, well. Hm. Gotta figure it out, yes.
● Has a really bad habit of trusting (the wrong) people. Sure, he's really weary at first (due to him being... him) but he'll always go along either way. Sweet words (like coaxing a frightened animal) perk him up a little bit, but if he gets kicked down he'll flinch back. HOWEVER, if someone repeated the process, Oliver would repeat his process with them, like them being mean five seconds ago didn't happen or something? Why so derp, Oliver. I guess he's quick to bounce back in that aspect of his life unless it's a TRAAAUUMMAAA situation. Yes.
● Oliver believes almost everything he is told. Tell him 2+2=5 and he will be like "???" but if someone bullshits a really lame (good) reason he'd be like "oh... okay." Facepalm. I wonder if he's actually that DITZY or what??
● I've learned over time that the surface of Oliver is what you get. There is no "digging down deeper" to understand him (no need to have secrets or hidden emotions) because he's just so THERE. No need to spend 9000 years to try and understand him because he's an open book. Or rather, he doesn't have anything to tell.
The reason I say this is because there's nothing suppressed or confusing about Oliver. His development is what gets him to his future!self, so for him it's more based off of a world learning process than actually learning about himself. His brain needs to build up more understanding of the world around him before he can put that understanding to good use, aka to better himself & to learn how to love and hate (or at least dislike.)
So he's detached because he doesn't understand why he should be. Or rather, he doesn't even know what attachment is, can't feel the emotion because it's not there yet. It's not that he doesn't care, it's that he doesn't know how to care, but instead of being aloof and blowing things off, he overcompensates because he thinks it'll... be painful if he doesn't? I actually haven't understood the foundation for this reasoning just yet, tbh. Thinking it just might be him being him. No need for explanation.
● Obviously will have grown attached to Simon the most throughout the rest of the storyline. Baby chick time GO. Though of course he's extremely fond of Anna & Rob. Idk they're all pretty much on the same scale to him, haha. Up until the future arc, of course, but that's when he can section off the type of "likes" he has.
(future!oliver coming soon.)
