[ is just shy of running through the hallways, feet light as not to draw unnecessary attention from the doctor down in his study. checks a few places -- their shared room, the fireplace room, their place by the window -- before hesitatingly tiptoeing toward the front doors. opens them just enough to poke his head, a shoulder & arm outside (not enough to cause any alarms), eyes quickly scanning the premises before he finally spots her in the near-ish distance.

clears his voice & hisses out, as loud as he dares to let his voice go: ]

Anna!

[ nods back & walks off, pace a little slower than usual so that he has time to think about what to say & how to convince the doctor. when in front of the study's door, he knocks once, twice, before heading in, the door closing behind him with a click. ]

[ watches him walk off & allows her eyes to stay put in that general area, turning back to the piano when she's content with her non-thoughts. sighs quietly through her nose, fiddling with her fingers as she waits. soon realizes that she's alone and the piano is right in front of her. hesitates when her hands lift to touch the keys, hovering over them with her fingers. frowns slightly, debating on whether or not to try (again, because this would not be the first time). shakes her head and stares at the black & white, finally allowing herself to play a few notes.

cringes slightly at the sound. tries again, her expression turning sour once more. despite this she continues to try, getting lost in her attempts & completely forgetting why she was sitting there to begin with. ]

[ keeps his voice & head in a subdued, obedient tone while talking to the doctor. is shooed away soon after; keeps his excitement controlled until he's well out of the lab & back to the music room where he knows anna would be waiting. pokes his head into the room to peer at what she's doing, tilting his head in curiosity. ]

... Anna?

[ at first she doesn't realize he's there until he speaks, the sudden sound of his voice prompting her to jump up and out of the seat clumsily. averts her eyes quickly and looks down at the ground while flushing in silence. puts her hands behind her back, fidgeting once or twice. ]

W-welcome back.

[ smiles a little at that silent invitation & steps back in, glancing at the piano & then at her. blinks again. ]

Were you playing?

[ shuffles her feet a little bit, as if she did something wrong. keeps quiet, wondering if she should explain... ]

[ suddenly looks up again when she realizes that he must've gotten his answer from the doctor, snapping out of her embarrassment to ask a greater question: ]

Did he give you permission?

[ caught off guard, the answer is not immediate; takes a moment to process & then -- ]

Oh. Uh, he said just the gardens, but he did.

[ nods silently in reply and steps forward to stand next to him. ]

Should I get you a coat?

Is it cold outside?

A bit, yes.

[ nods and removes herself, wandering off to pick something suitable for him. it doesn't take her very long; comes back a moment later with one of his relatively nice coats and opens it up, inviting him to accept her help in putting it on. ]

[ does as cued, turning around to shrug on the coat with her aid. fiddles with it a little & then turns to her. ]

What about you?

[ looks down at herself when he's situated, considering his question. looks back up, expression unwavering. ]

I am fine.

But you just said it was a little cold.

[ blinks at him, confused. ]

It is.

... [ starts to take off the coat. ]

If you're okay, then I should be okay too.

[ does not move instantly, but when she does she gently touches his arm to stop him. moves a bit closer to wrap an arm around one of his own, averting her eyes to the ground when she feels her face grow warm. ]

If I'm cold, then I'll have you.

[ nods and holds onto his arm a bit tighter, as if silently telling him that she won't be letting go anytime soon. ]

[ nods & walks out of the room with her attached, grabbing a scarf on their way out. takes a deep breath of the cool air when beyond the doors, the heavy feeling of containment lifting away from his chest for a moment; makes him smile, pleased. ]
