[ it felt like bad luck the moment his cellphone rang and woke him up after four hours of sleep. it felt like even worse luck when said person on the other line told nathan that he would be saying hello to their fifth and final member to the 'team'-- alone, which was apparently due to personal reasons from his other three co-workers. this did not deter nathan from furiously texting aaron in anger, only to get a short can't come as a reply. he didn't even bother texting hana, as she still had difficulties texting with an english-language phone, but he still called her and got her voicemail message, which only made him seethe even further.

the anger eventually subsided when coffee was deposited into his hands, drinking his life force happily (or as happy as nathan could get) while turning the corner from starbucks to sit on one of the many chairs littering the front of the shop. once he settled in and tossed his bag onto the table, nathan finally felt like all was right in the world, completely forgetting his original objective for the day. his coffee was his second love, after all, and it deserved his complete and undivided attention. ]

Shooter? [ small pause to translate this, followed by an 'oh!' moment. ]

Gun game?

[ reaches over to press the button that turns on the wireless remote control for caleb, going on his knees for a split second to turn on the tv. ]

Something like that, yeah. It has zombies in it.

[ sits down with his back against the bed, looking thoughtful. ]

Nein, did not play shooter in game. Is good game?

Pretty good, yeah. I mean, some people say that it's better on a PC, but I--

[ stops right there, realizing that he'll be wasting his breath if caleb can't really understand what he's saying. just sits where he's at, selecting the option that starts the game. ]

[ had only heard up to 'pretty good', busily trying to adjust himself to the onslaught of new noise. eventually able to glance at nathan so that he can mirror the positioning of the controller in what he believes to be the correct way. ]

What is trigger?

[ was sort of getting into it when he hears caleb's question, prying his eyes away from the tv to properly look at him. ]

Oh, uh. It means to release and pull. Familiar with those words?

[ is kind of dying pathetically on his half of the screen. ]

Oh. Ja, have teacher for shooter. Erm. Know guns, but not good at game...

[ eyes go back to the tv screen, brows scrunched up a bit as he half-concentrates and half listens/talks. ]

Well I'm good at both, so I guess I'll have to teach you how to play these games decently.

[ mournfully stares at the GAME OVER while nodding in assent. ]

[ glances at him briefly and sighs, turning back to the tv so he can properly say: ]

Well... the game controller is kind of strange, but you. Did good. Or something.

Danke. I do better next try.

[ sets the controller down for now, contently watching nathan play with interest. ]

[ nods and goes back to his game, though finds himself pausing it, scooting back a bit so that he's sitting next to caleb this time. lifts the controller a bit. ]

Watch my hands and the screen, okay?

[ does as instructed, eyes flickering back & forth between the tv & nathan's controller. ]

Nathan play very good.

[ pauses, feeling a little self-conscious (again) over the praise. ]

I have maaaaany years of practice, believe me.

I believe you. Practice and work a lot is important in make people very good, ja?

[ finishes a level up before he turns and raises an eyebrow over at caleb, but only because he actually understood exactly what he was trying to say. there might almost be a fond look somewhere in there, schooling it to nod a bit. ]

Yeah, you're right.

[ looks extremely pleased that his meaning was correctly communicated, making him chatter something in german happily while picking up the controller again upon screen change. ]

I play too?

[ looks a little surprised at his determination, so it takes him a moment to realize that he asked a question. ]

Oh, uh. Yeah, sure.

[ shakes his head and looks at the screen again, pushing different buttons furiously. ]

It's all about teamwork, okay? We'll have to do something like this sooner or later, but without all the zombies and stuff.

[ mimicking what he has seen before & is doing fairly well, though he's mostly matching sounds to button pressing. ]

Mach dir keine Sorgen, Nathan. I am good at order follow.

[ tilts his head to the side, nudging him a bit with an elbow. ]

It's "I'm good at following orders".

[ turns back to the tv again, nodding once. ]

But I know that already.

[ & now does a double-take, forgetting the game in favour of leaning forward a little in surprise. ]
