[ exactly three and a half months later alyssa returned from her trip with her parents, feeling refreshed and rather happy in the face of what she considered a new beginning. the change of scenery was needed, as well as the lost (& hopefully only brief) contact between friends gave her more of a reason to keep going on strong; to mend things, to make things right again.

it is now that she returns to the campus, having decided that it was best to move back in with her parents for the time being. thinks she merely missed home too much to properly focus on things that needed to be focused on, knowing that the change was necessary and very much so welcomed (from her dad especially). at the moment she resides under one of the trees a bit further out from the building where her first class was held in, contently reading a book to pass the hours until her next class started. flips through it leisurely, eyes trained to focus on that and nothing more. tucks a strand of now-short hair behind an ear, feeling calm and at peace with the world as a whole. ]

[ a quick flicker of emotion passes his face before he wipes the ice cream off. tosses the tissue in the closest trash that they pass by soon after. ]

[ puffs out her cheeks at his words. gets an idea, quickly wiping a finger against her ice cream to put it underneath anthony's nose. ]

Hmph! Look who's talking now, Anthony Claus.

[ reaches up to pinch one of his cheeks. ]

[ shakes himself free to lean away, rubbing at his abused cheek. ]

All your toys belong to me?

[ looks down at her ice cream, eating that in between talking. ]

Well, yeah... Santa takes toys from the elves that make them, right? Then he gives them away to good boys and girls.

[ looks as serious as he can. ]

[ looks uncertain with his answer when he speaks. ]

With lots of practice?

[ looks up at him, face contorting into something both confused and frustrated at the same time. then lets it go when nothing profound comes to mind, blinking up at the nearest building they're at. then back at anthony. ]

When's your next class?

[ checks the time on his cellphone. ]

Half an hour.

Oh... [ munches down as much ice cream as possible, making sure to wipe off anything that doesn't make it into her mouth with the back of her sleeve. ] You should probably go then, huh?

[ seems to be struggling with the sheer volume on his, but nods in affirmation. ]

Pretty soon, yeah.

'Kay.

[ stares down blankly at the rest of her ice cream, unsure how to feel about that. in the end she finishes the rest of her treat, looking around for the tree she was settled under once before. ]

[ also looks to the side, closing his eyes briefly. but decides to hold onto the ice cream on account of her having paid for it, determined to finish it. shifts the strap of his backpack once & gives her a nod. ]

[ brightly smiles when she finds "her" tree, turning to give anthony a fond, happy look. ]

[ & then runs on over to it, but stops before she gets there to cup a hand over her mouth, the other raised up to wave at him. ]

[ exhales heavily through his nose & lifts a hand to wave back. ]

[ isn't sure if it's loud enough, but doesn't seem to care as he's busily making up his mind to walk toward her, pulling her into a one-armed hug. keeps it tight, as if he's trying to communicate everything that he feels. holds that connection for a little longer. pulls away slowly, not speaking until they're once again entirely apart. ]
