[ it had been one of those days for alyssa, the ones that rendered her unable to attend classes for more than a few hours-- the ones that had nathan running to her as quickly as possible. thankfully her health and mood seemed to improve throughout the afternoon, giving nathan time to decide whether or not to call albert. when she seemed fine in less time than usual he decided against it, instead suggesting some things for them to do to pass the time. of course, a disney film reigned supreme.

when their movie came to a close nathan turned to look down at alyssa, the girl curled up with her head on his lap, dozing off into what seemed to be a peaceful sleep. he didn't take any time in picking her up gently and moving towards his room, laying her down on top of his bed before grabbing a blanket and putting it over her small body. smiles down at her and brushes a hand against her hair, shutting the door half-way when he makes it back into the living room to start picking up the steadily growing mess that had accumulated throughout the hours of her stay. ]

[ holds the kitten to her chest and leans forward to kiss the hands around that ankle. ]

That means you're fine.

[ instinctively inches away when the cat comes near, but doesn't seem bothered by her proximity otherwise. ]

Logic has no place in pain.

[ looks at them back and forth, an uncomfortable yet worried look crossing over his expression for a split-second. looks up at the ceiling in thought, then down at his watch. starts to move away to grab his keys, breaking into the conversation before alyssa could respond. ]

I've gotta go for a little bit. Got something to pick up. [ puts the keys in his pocket, looking at them both. ] I should be back in about an hour. That okay with you guys?

[ stops stroking the kitten in her arms immediately, looking up at nathan with a sad look on her face. visibly droops. ]

You're leaving?

[ takes a few quick steps over and bends down to stroke her hair. ]

Sorry, sweetheart. I won't be gone too long, though. Promise. [ looks up at anthony briefly. back down to alyssa. ] Besides, you've got your friend here, right? I'm sure he wouldn't mind staying here with you for a while.

[ keeps his expression carefully neutral as he shrugs. ]

I think I can handle an hour.

Cool.

[ gives alyssa a brief kiss to the crown of her head, ruffling the short hair as he stands. ]

[ watches him sadly as he goes through the front door, only looking away when she hears the click of it being locked. stares down at her lap momentarily. goes back up to anthony. ]

[ finally her smile widens significantly, lifting up to take a seat next to him. ]

How was school today? What classes did you have? Do you have a lot of homework?

[ glances at her, expression worried. then decides to focus on her questions instead for now. ]

It was school. More 101 stuff. Homework is for the weak.

. . . You? Feeling okay?

Yeah! I had a tummyache but Nay-Nay picked me up. We watched a movie and ate soup, so now I feel a lot better.

[ leans in closer to him. ]

How've you been? Good? I hope you're eating right, or else I'll have to kick your butt.

[ blinks at the 'nay-nay', opening his mouth to question before she cuts him off. doesn't lean in or away for now, lifting an arm to flex his biceps. ]

Sandwich champion. Feeding myself is what I'm best at.

[ hums in thought. ]

That's true. You look okay, so I guess that's all that matters.

You only like me when I look pretty?

[ laughs and hugs him, the kitten thankfully jumping off and into nathan's room instead of latching onto anthony again. ]

No, silly! I always love you!

[ follows the fuzzball with his eyes wearily until it disappears. ]

[ now brings his arms up to hug her back. ]

Vow accepted.

[ buries into him happily. still keeps her hold even as she looks up at him. ]

Isn't Fifi just the cutest thing? Nay-Nay bought her for me!

[ doesn't answer immediately. then decides to settle with satisfying his curiosity rather than commenting on the cat. ]

Nay-Nay?

[ blinks, looking at him as if it should be fairly obvious by now. ]

Nathan, of course.

[ shakes his head. ]

Not Smelly anymore?

[ tilts her head a bit. ]
