[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

[ gives her hair another fond stroke (...? was it growing? oh well) before going back to his ice cream. ]

Sit inside or out?

[ glances around, noting the quietness of the store. ]

Inside?

Inside it is!

[ makes a beeline to one of the tables near the window, pulling out a seat for both of them. makes himself comfortable, looking satisfied as he continues to munch on his treat. ]

[ settles into the other seat that lyssa had pulled out, arranging her dress around her so that she's at optimal comfort. then leans back & enjoys her treat in silence, alternating between thinking about everything (ponies, gundams, the prom... nah on the last one) & nothing. ]

[ om nom nom... for a while, anyway, turning his attention back to her after another customer comes and goes. ]

So what are you going to do for graduation? Go out to dinner with your dad?

I think so. He said he booked the day off. [ takes another bite. ] You?

Probably have a family get-together. I'm really excited about that, I haven't seen my cousins in a long time! Especially my cute aunt's daughter. She's getting pretty big now!

[ nods, thinking oh, that sounds really nice. ]

How old is she? [ the kid, she means. ]

Four. [ sits up a bit straighter in his seat, looking distinctly proud. ] I think she likes me the best.

Do you spoil her?

Absolutely!

Ice cream? Cookies? [ clothes, toys, ponies, cars, an all-paid trip to japan? ]

Anything she wants!

Lucky baby.

It's all because of love, my dearest muse.

[ nods in agreement. ]

That too.

[ also nods, only because he mostly focuses on that last point. after nomming more of his ice cream, he gets an idea. ]

Hey, if you guys are free after dinner, you're more than welcome to come to my party.

[ considers this with a small hum. ]

I'll ask my dad. [ to see if he can handle an extra serving of sparkles. ]

Great! I'm sure my parents would love to see you two again. It's been a while.

[ don't get your hopes up, lyssa. you never know what kind of mood that her dad might be in. ]

Should I bring anything? [ maybe a present? the dreidel that she's been thinking about earlier? ]

[ finally gets to the cone, biting into it while shaking his head. ]

Just bring yourself and your dad. We're pretty casual with family gatherings.

[ while she's already at the last end of her cone. she's a pro at eating ice cream. ]

Okay. [ she'll be sure to tell her dad that too. that should lower his stress levels by about 200%. ]

[ there's a final nod before he goes back to his ice cream, quite content with just sitting there in silence with his friend. but alas, good things must always come to an end, namely his ice cream of choice which seems to be there one minute and gone the next. (it was delicious and he suddenly had the realization that he hasn't had dinner yet. huh.)

after he swallows his last bite, he turns to amanda again. ]

Did your dad want you home at any specific time?

[ pulls out her ~~stone-age~~ cellphone to glance at the time. ]

He usually expects me back at around ten.

[ looks at his watch as well before standing, reaching out his hand to her. ]

I'll get you home a half an hour early. I think that'll cheer him up even more.
