[ it's after his meet-up with his supervisor that he gets a call from robin to babysit alice. of course he says 'yes' -- he has nothing planned for the day & would never consciously turn down time with his niece. & like he told robin before, more free air should do him some good; who knows, if he's feeling better in mind, the body might follow. (he didn't really believe that since the damage from the accident has been said to be absolute, but a little bit of feigned hope wasn't too heavy to carry around.)

that's the context to their current scenario: at the park with alice, doing whatever she wants until it's time for lunch & ice cream. time with uncle nick is the time to get spoiled, so he doesn't worry too much about feeding her nutritional things; he's pretty sure his ~~mom~~ sis has that covered anyway. ]

[ hums, sticking his nose in the air a little while turning to watch the kettle slowly let out some steam. ]

Who knows~

[ just... confused. ]

Right. You let me know now.

[ is quiet for the moment, too busy in nabbing the kettle once it goes off. pours the hot water into the cup before putting everything back in place, dunking the tea bag a few times. ]

I just meant that if you ever change your mind, I'll be here to consider it.

We'll see. [ since that depended on a lot of factors & he's pretty good for not guessing at the future. ]

[ nods in recognition, moving to wander back on over to the couch. ]

What's your schedule like this weekend? Doing any projects?

[ flexes his hand a bit in minor exercise as he follows suit. ]

Nothing full-out. Just minor touch-ups before the next big hurdle.

[ takes a seat, blowing at his tea. ]

If you need any help, I'll be here until Monday morning.

[ is quiet for a moment, then snorts softly. ]

Well. I'd never say no to a second opinion.

[ takes a sip of his tea. ]

Especially my opinion. Right, friend?

[ does a dismissive wave. ]

If your observations hold merit, it can make it into top fifty.

I claim at least one seat in the top five!

[ raises an eyebrow. ]

Those seats are already taken.

[ blinks, raising a hand up to count off on his fingers. ]

Robin, Alice, your supervisor... [ looks at him again. ] Those are the only ones I can think of.

[ puts a hand to his forehead & lists off: ]

My aid. Classmates. Friends. Undergraduate architecture students.

But I'm your friend now, too. [ puffs at his tea a little while his cheeks bloat in a typical pouting session. ] And I think I should get special treatment, all things considered...

[ hand lifts as if to flick & then brings it back down. ]

And help further inflate that ego of yours? No.

My ego really isn't that big. [ another sip. ] Just when I'm around you.

[ tilts his gaze toward the ceiling. ]

And why do I get such an honour?

[ shrugs a bit, smiling over at him. ]

It's just my personality when I'm with you. You act differently when you're around Alice and Robin, right? Sure, it might just be because they're family, but it's still different.

[ sighs; that's not the type of thing he likes to hear because that translates into 'only a brat with you.' wonderful. ]

Then my previous statement still holds.

[ rests the mug on a thigh, reaching out to pat his shoulder with his free hand. ]

Don't worry. Now that we're friends, I'll go easy on you.

[ rolls his eyes. ]

Much appreciated.

[ drinks down most of his tea, leaning towards him when another question comes to mind. chooses to (jokingly) voice it: ]

So what'd you get me for my birthday, huh? Eighteen is a pretty big marker in a person's life!

[ makes a considering hum despite not really know when lyssa's birthday is. or was. ]

What, my hospitality isn't enough?

[ tucks his legs close to his chest, tilting sideways into the couch with the mug balancing on his knees. ]

Well, if spending time with you like this is my gift, then yeah. It is.
