[ four weeks. that's how long he's known her, only it wasn't quite a two-way street just yet. in fact, he hadn't even been able to work up the courage to talk to her in the month that he's "known" the girl. instead he made it a habit to sit on his stupid bench that she always passed by when going to and from classes, unwilling to miss a chance to see her whenever possible. (not that the bench he claimed was his in the first place, but he'd like to think otherwise. nobody else sat there! so it was okay to say it was his, right...? ... no. probably not. he'll just say that he's borrowing it. sorry, other people who sit there when he's not around. he didn't mean to be so stingy.)
today is no exception, knowing that therare human-bird species beautiful bird-lady that's so lovely what's her name? he needs to know-- girl would be coming around in the next hour or so. (class was let out early, so it's okay to be early too. he didn't just sit there for her, after all! maybe.) so he sets up camp at his usual place, beaming when he realizes that there are some birds gathered around the area. (there are bread crumbs on the ground! someone must have been feeding them. this is good, he likes when the birds feel welcome!) so today is a two-for-one deal, he thinks, placing his messenger bag on the bench before pulling out his (rather tattered-looking) moleskine sketchbook and turning to a new page.
feels elated when even more birds come around to peck at the ground, carefully reaching into his bag to grab some of the bird food he carries around with him for times like these. (here you go, my friends! is this to your tastes? it's okay, i won't hurt you. see, i'll toss it closer to you than me!) his smile widens when the birds seem content enough to stay around him, slowly grabbing a pencil to begin his work and wait for his mystery bird-girl. ]

The usual place?
no subject
It's the best, after all!
no subject
It's almost as good as the place back home.
no subject
Almost, but not quite.
no subject
Another thai place?

We used to be regulars at a lot of places in the area. [ glances at amanda. ] Like that ice cream shop, and...?
no subject
Pizza, pasta, mexican, crepes. . .
no subject
That sounds nice.

this topic is kind of insensitive, huh... or-- something. they need to include everyone. she knows from experience how awkward being left out is, so-- ]
We'll find places here too. [ you're included,
birdbrendan! ]no subject
What she means is that you're more than welcome to join us at any time. [ steps inside of the elevator when it arrives. ] We can all explore and find places together, okay?
no subject
Are you sure? You barely even know me...

nest ofhair. ruffles it a little bit. ]'Course we're sure. [ and then he wraps his arms around both brendan's and amanda's shoulders, pushing them closer to him. ] We're all friends here!
no subject
I think so too. [ besides, this is how she makes friends! probably. the normal way. ]
no subject
T-Thank you! I won't let you down!
[ (wait, let them down for what? oh, who cares, this is great! thank you, bird lover and beautiful, wonderful, lovely bird!) ]
no subject
You won't. [ she's pretty confident about this. ]
no subject
--yeah just this face. ]

The thai place isn't in walking distance, so we'll take my car. I think the backseat has some stuff in it, but I can always dump it in the front seat for now, since the trunk is full. [ looks at amanda. ] Sorry, darling. You're being dethroned for the day.
no subject
That's okay. All seats look comfortable.

poofhair again, giving brendan a look to signal for him to follow them when he starts leading them towards his car. (well, he might've not been completely honest with amanda, but it'll do good in the long-run. or so he hopes. he'll have to do some serious work on their new friend, too...)presses the button on his keyring to unlock the doors of his car when they arrive, popping open the driver's side's door so he can place his bag on the seat there. it doesn't take him very long to deposit the posters and other misc items into the passenger's side, dusting his hands off on his pants before gesturing inside. ]
Your carriage awaits.

those thoughts stop when he realizes, once again, that he's sitting next to her!! tries not to show it, though, quickly looking away and out the window. it's only after the car starts and they're on the road does he kick himself to talk to her more. (they said they wanted to be friends, but this could be the only time we really talk... i should say something!)
gaze goes back to amanda, fidgeting a bit in his seat. ]
Um. I haven't had Thai food in a long time... what do you usually get?
no subject
Pad thai. You?
no subject
after a moment, a little weakly: ]
Fried... rice...?
no subject
I like that too.
