[ it was with some strange stroke of luck that nathan had confirmed the non-presence of albert, brianna, and damon in the mansion for the weekend, almost suspiciously double-checking with them all to make sure; albert was off to god knows where, brianna flew out to hawaii for a photo shoot, and damon was spending some quality time with his friends before the summer officially came to a close.

nathan didn't think it would be this simple. lo and behold, the mansion was completely his for the taking for at least two and a half days. this prompted the almost juvenile-like excitement that overcame him when he invited caleb over for a real two-night stay inside the mansion, to show him where he lived (where he didn't like to live) and let him explore what he normally did not allow people to see. so this is why he tugged at caleb's hand enthusiastically, his body betraying the way he tried to school his expression, knowing somewhere in the back of his mind that in the end it was quite a futile attempt.

stops when they're far enough inside the mansion, not bothering to let caleb's hand go as he turns slightly to look at him. ]

Well, here we are. [ a pause, as if his excitement was slowly wearing off. ] Again.

[ doesn't let go. ]

. . . Now?

[ blinks, looking confused. ]

You don't want to go?

Erm. . . [ pauses a bit, struggling with how to word his thoughts. ]

I stay with Nathan where Nathan is happy.

[ watches him carefully... then smiles softly again. ]

We should go out to the backyard, then. The pool and the gardens are there. You haven't seen that yet, right?

[ shakes his head, finally letting him go. grabs another piece of pizza, suitably motivated by the concept of more exploration. ]

In map! But is more nice to see real, ja?

[ looks down at the remainder of the pizza, closing the box before picking it up. ]

Really nice. Especially at night, remember?

[ blinks, munching on the slice. ]

I remember. Nathan say.

[ smooshes the pizza slide against his mouth as he thinks. ]

. . . Night is same as day? Dark, but same.

[ gets lost in translation, head tilted a bit. ]

Uh... what do you mean?

[ tries to explain. ]

Nathan say is nice at night. But night is same as day. . . Nathan like dark?

[ seems to not catch on at first, but when he does he smiles again. ]

No, it's just different at night. [ pushes open the door, jerking his head in that direction. ] C'mon, I'll show you.

[ chomps through what is left of his pizza slice to follow after him. ]

Follow Nathan!

[ rolls his eyes and tries to not let a smile break through again, walking into the mansion to start making his way back towards the kitchen. ]

[ trails behind a little, looking down at his hands with a slightly troubled (considering) gaze. ]

[ keeps on going at an evened pace, not really paying attention to anything in particular. when caleb says or does nothing for longer than he's used to he glances over his shoulder, blinking at his expression. ]

...

[ slows down a bit so that they're closer together, blindly reaching out with his left hand for one of caleb's hands after he shifts the pizza box into his right. doesn't say anything, however, too busy trying to fight the blush that quickly spreads across his face. ]

. . . !!

[ takes a quick step forward so that they're walking side-by-side. quickly wipes his hands against his pants anyway before responding, reaching & holding that hand. ]

[ a small twinge of his lips is all he'll give away, too busy setting the pizza box on top of one of the now-clean counters in the kitchen, quickly strolling on by it while tugging caleb along. ]

We have a few ways out to the gardens, but this one is the best. Doesn't have the pool next to it, but that's just a big puddle of water. Not as interesting, y'know?

[ follows along, but fidgets a bit as he makes a profound statement: ]

Everything in Nathan house is big.

[ pace slows a bit at that, frowning as he looks towards the ground. ]

Yeah... it is.

[ catches up & peers at him curiously. ]

Nathan do not like?

[ shakes his head. ]

No. It's too big. A lot of people think it's cool to live in such a huge place, but...

[ struggles for a bit. looks up at him and settles with: ]

It's uh. Unfriendly at times. Cold. Sort of lonely, too.

. . . [ steps a bit closer to him. ]

With family too?

... especially with my family, yeah.
