[ isn't entirely there even when the plane comes to a complete stop; the noise ringing in his head is as painful as he remembers it being, making him sway a bit while pressing a hand to his forehead. the world before his eyes seems to double, triple, merge back into one, then double again, while the blueprint-world throbs in noisy emptiness. makes small whimpering noises when they're walking, barely hanging onto consciousness by focusing on that comforting, erratic heartbeat he knows is near.

gropes around for a smaller hand that he knows is around (but can't remember why it would be right this moment) while mumbling absentmindedly under his breath in german, as if he's welcoming himself back home. ]

[ expression wavers a little at that. ]

I didn't-- [ no, just decides to stop right there. ] Alright. Date.

[ holds up his pinky finger. ]

Versprechen?

[ blinks at it. carefully lifts his hand, pinky finger extended. ]

Verspr... whatever.

[ hooks their pinkies together & repeats the word more slowly. ]

Versprechen.

[ makes a weird face while concentrating on repeating after him: ]

Ver-spre-chen.

[ nods excitedly. ]

Good, good! Very good!

Huh. Guess I'm getting the hang of it.

[ releases their pinky so he can brush at nathan's cheek again. ]

Ja. Then speak Deutsch when Nathan want always.

[ decides against saying anything to that, instead bumping his head gently against that hand. wiggles and sits up finally, making sure his hair isn't too messed up. glances out the window. ]

Looks like it's still raining... [ & then looks at caleb, blinking. ] You're not bored?

[ draws his hand back when nathan sits up. picks up his mug again to take another sip. ]

Nein. Together with Nathan. So is fun, good, and nice.

[ picks up his own mug, if only for something to do. ]

Yeah, same here, though for some reason I feel like I'm missing something. [ hums in thought... ]

[ blinks when it comes to mind. ]

I know, it's that book. Did you read it yet?

[ scratches the back of his head. ]

Erm. . . nein. With Nathan, see Deutschland, so put book in bag to bring to house to read later.

Oh. [ taps a finger on the mug, staring down at it. back to caleb, feeling a little shy when he asks: ] D-does Hilda make you a lot of books?

[ nods. ]

Ja. Hilda know a lot, and she is good teacher. Is easy to learn with Hilda.

[ gives a considering look. a few questions linger on the tip of his tongue, holding them back to instead make a statement. ]

You really like her, huh.

[ nods again, though this time with more energy. ]

Ja! I like Hilda a lot! Is family!

[ looks down at his mug, unable to keep himself from smiling. ]

She... she's a nice person, so. Not surprised.

[ puts his mug down to tug him close again. grows quiet for a bit when a strange (uncharacteristic) need to share comes to mind. ]

Hilda is good to me. [ pauses. ] Give me place with SAVE. With old team.

[ peers up at him, tilting his head a bit at caleb's hesitation. puts down his own mug to scoot closer. second-guesses himself when more questions come to mind, deciding to just start with the most simple one he can think of. ]

... that's how you met her?

[ tugs him even closer until he can wrap both arms around him comfortably. speaks softly. ]

Ja.

[ leans on him more when the contact is initiated further. ]

Did she take care of you?

[ tilts his head in thought. ]

Hilda and old team together.

[ opens his mouth before closing it. shuts his eyes, resigned to the fact that he can't push for more answers. ]

It's good that you had them, then.

[ gives nathan a reassuring squeeze, offering a smile down at him. ]

Danke. I am lucky. More lucky than a lot.
