[ continues her trek towards one of the less crowded areas of the school, holding two bags full of (homemade) food close to her chest. when she spots her company for the afternoon she shifts the excess weight to free her hands; comes up behind anthony, reaching up to put her palms over his eyes as she happily exclaims: ]

[ & it's then that he hears the telling silence from the kitchen, signaling to him that the food (& table) were set & ready. doesn't move immediately, taking the time to enjoy their position for a little longer before he nudges alyssa away with a nod & a one-word explanation: food. at her compliancy, he gets to his feet, shaking out his legs one more time to make sure they won't give out on their way to the kitchen-slash-dining room. takes one of alyssa's hands in his to tug her forward, offering a slight smile before tugging them along toward where his dad is waiting with their food.

on the table are three plates of polish food (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/Airleas/2197046450_80048c5aaa.jpg), the table set more neatly than usual. blinks down at it, then looks up at ralph with a half-accusing & half-amused stare, making the man turn his face away slightly in embarrassment. after getting seated, he immediately goes for the cabbage out of curiosity alone, blinking yet again when it's not as bad as he originally thinks. after giving his dad a small thumbs-up in approval, he digs right in alongside alyssa, listening to the two chatter back & forth -- about his dad asking alyssa about starting college, alyssa asking ralph about his trip -- while pitching in once or twice when he finds that he cannot quell his kneejerk reactions to certain comments.

when he mentions to ralph that alyssa is sleeping over tonight, his dad's face takes on such a blush that makes it difficult to resist kicking the man under the table. pleased with the pained look, he proceeds to tell him that ralph needs to buy his lunch tomorrow -- but no cheeseburgers allowed. or anything bad for his arteries. stretches a bit when he sees that alyssa has finished her share of food & his dad has gotten started on the dishes already in the kitchen. puts down his fork & gives alyssa a small nudge. ]

We left your toothbrush in the bathroom.

[ had obviously enjoyed the meal with the way her plate is practically clean, one hand reaching out for a napkin to pat her mouth down with. gives a worrying glance at ralph when he begins to clean, as if she should help him somehow, but knows better so she just turns her attention to anthony instead. ]

Okay. [ stands, though does not move just yet. ] Do you want to come with me? We could have a race.

[ stares down at the bathroom, then back at her. back at the bathroom, then at alyssa yet again. ]

[ laughs and shakes her head. ]

No, silly, I meant a toothbrush race!

Okay. [ takes a last sip of his water & also gets to his feet. ]

How do we play?

[ begins to make her way to the bathroom, talking along the way. ]

We see who can brush their teeth the fastest, of course!

[ reaches over to flip the light on when they get there, turning to look at him with her hands on her hips. ]

[ scrunches his nose, but nods. ]

[ puffs out her chest a little. ]

I am. [ nabs her toothbrush, raising it in the air. ] Me, daddy and mommy used to play it when I was little.

[ picks out his own toothbrush & squeezes some toothpaste on it. hands it over to alyssa. ]

Then I forfeit.

[ lips form into a pout as she takes the toothpaste. ]

[ squirts some toothpaste on her toothbrush, runs it under some water and then, after saying phooey, she shoves it in her mouth to begin slowly brushing. ]

[ mirrors her motions, brushing lazily as he starts humming & singing around the toothpaste. ]

[ can't help but giggle at that, bumping her hip against him gently. while he gets out a few words all she can do is gurgle some nonsense out in reply to his singing. ]
