[ it had been five days full of nothing but silently following robert along, knowing their path yet allowing the younger boy to take the lead due to his mood. who could blame him, though? he was already well aware of robert and annabelle having a close-knit relationship, one that nobody (not even himself) could wiggle their way into. despite being quite inept to the full extent of the bond the two siblings had, he was perceptive enough to realize that their parting had been quite different than their usual. this is why he ceased the typical banter he always initiated, whether it be with good intent or not.

when robert had finally spoken and begun to say more than a discussion of their plans, he knew that his neighboring prince had begun to settle back into place. dare he say it was a comfort of sorts, despite being the one that needed to be extra strong and encouraging. and with that hurtle behind them, the elder of the two moved to his rightful position once more: on robert's left side, striding next to him as if they're simply taking a walk and nothing more. he subtly kept his pace slower than usual as to not pass the boy, using the map robert had previously pilfered from the archives as a silent excuse to keep their position leveled and even, as they had finally reached territory that both of them weren't completely familiar with.

keeps to their comfortable silent for a while longer. stops in his tracks when a thought hits him and pauses. face is rather straight as he says: ]

I'm hungry.

[ grunts quietly at that before turning away from robert, pinching the bridge of his nose and rubbing his face a little bit to ward off anything bad. turns back to begin packing up their things. ]

It will take more than a few hours, Your Highness.

[ puts on a smile, but just for show. ]

[ stands when he has everything situated, handing robert his things. ]

[ accepts them & shoulders what he can while also picking up the bag containing all their sleeping gear. gestures forward. ]

Onwards, then. I'm at the mercy of your lead.

[ just holds his head up higher with those words, beginning their trek onward. it is only after some silence that he pauses, eyes averting elsewhere as he stands there and listens. shakes his head and keeps on moving despite the possible glances he would be expecting from robert, trying to shake off the feeling that something is following them. ]

[ follows along, marching after the other prince like he's done for the past few weeks. yawns & rubs at his eyes with his palm heels occasionally. only blinks & raises an eyebrow when riku pauses; though blind to the current paranoia that seems to have gripped riku, he's had his fair share of such moments in the weeks before. allows it without a snide or sarcastic comment, entirely pacified by the notion of food & shelter in the coming night. ]

[ it is only after a few minutes that he stops again, though this time with good reason: there is rustling nearby. quite the loud rustling, really, along with some soft noises that sounds suspiciously like an animal of some sort. a large one.

nonetheless he stops yet again and stares into the forest, a hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to strike if anything should come. ]

[ just. stands there and stares with a rather dumb look on his face at the very large grizzly bear that had decided to finally come into view. doesn't say anything, something in the back of his mind reminding him that it's not good to do anything with a bear around and that it'll leave them alone if they don't make any sort of movement. maybe. hopefully. ]

[ he doesn't stop immediately when riku does, narrowly avoiding a run-in with the prince. opens his mouth to snap at him when riku draws his blade. frowns, but also rests his hand on the hilt of his sword. he doesn't draw it yet, however, merely turning his gaze to where riku's concentration seems to be focused at the moment, waiting for any movement -- ]

[ pauses when the bear comes into view. ]

[ gazes up at riku via the corner of his eyes, hissing as low as he can. ]

. . . Run? Or do we play dead?

[ snarls quietly. ]

Have you any training in surviving the wilderness?!

Yes! [ pauses. ] ... a long time ago.

[ pauses for a long time, thinking. thinks some more. is about to belatedly retort when another (more important) thought strikes him. ]

Wait, have you no wildlife training?

[ his expression turns bland for a moment. ]

[ is about to respond when the bear lets off a small rumble as well as taking a disgruntled step forward. to which he responds with a step backward & a vice grip on one of riku's wrists. ]
