[ the weeks seemed to drag by so slowly for him whilst robert were away, having little-to-no interest in the happenings around him throughout the duration of the other boy's leave. more often than not he would be seated by his window, gaze locked on the path that robert would surely return on. it was there that he stayed for most of his days, leaving it only to eat, bathe, or when his mother summoned him. regardless he would put on a smile for those around him, as if nothing was amiss and would say that his brother would surely return soon, that he would be gone for only a short while.

that short while turned into weeks. months. far longer than robert had ever been gone before. on his bad days he wondered if his brother had grown tired of his position (of their situation) and thus would not return for good, but those thoughts were always shadowed by the hope and faith he had in his prince. surely the day of his return would come.

opens his eyes slowly when the sound of music reaches his ears again, lifting his gaze back up towards the crowd of dancing people before him. after some time of simply gazing he sits up straighter in his chair, the one that is forever to his mother's right. does not look at her as she speaks to someone, his curiosity nonexistent. instead he raises his glass and slips at the liquid inside, going back to his silent thinking (of robert, of other things that had been on his mind for quite some while) as a somewhat glazed look overcomes his features once more. ]

[ allows himself to smile brightly as she laughs, controlling it back into a frown when she finally speaks. voice is still low as to imitate his brother, humming. ]

It is rather nice, no? [ turns slightly, pushing a foot out from underneath the gown. ] How about these heels? Do they suit me?

[ a few more chuckles escape before she's able to clear her throat to respond. ]

Oh, they're perfect on your -- [ pfft ] -- petite feet, my liege. Not to mention that they help with your height.

[ puts his hands on his hips. ]

My height was not of my choosing!

[ eventually changes back to his typical smile, voice going back to normal. ]

... or so he says.

[ laughs some more, but the sound a little softer & clearer this time around. shakes her head. ]

I know from direct experience that those words are what he says, princess. Your performance was excellent.

[ laughs lightly, moving to finally stand closer to her again. ]

Oh? Perhaps I should resign from my position and become a wandering jester instead.

Why set your sights so low? I believe you may make a better actor, Annabelle. Main roles for the court plays.

[ slowly begins their trek again, making his intentions clear. ]

That sounds like a fine idea. We will have to announce this at once.

[ matches her pace with his, grinning widely. ]

No, no. Your brother deserves the right to know before all others.

Oh dear, he will be quite embarrassed when he is aware of what brought on this change...

[ waves dismissively. ]

A small sacrifice, in helping you find your true calling.

[ chuckles gently, shaking his head in amusement. when they finally come upon a more frequently used hall he straightens slightly, making little eye-contact with the guards that wander the area. inclines his head when they bow, bids a few by his chambers a good night, then steps in through the door when it is opened for him without turning to look behind himself, knowing alicia will undoubtedly follow. ]

[ & follow she does, weaving past the guards without a second glance, patting at her (bound) chest when she feels the stares the other guards as she passes by. closes the door behind her back herself, making sure that she hears the secured click before reaching behind her to undo her ponytail. shakes out the hair some & massages parts of her scalp, tilting her head in annabelle's direction. ]

Will you be going to bed right away, princess?

[ wanders about the first small(er) room they are in, taking a glance over his shoulder at her as he reaches up to begin the removal of his jewelry. ]

Not at all. I still must take pity on you, do I not?

[ wanders over to a place were she can sit, crossing a leg over the other after she is seated. leans forward to lean her chin against her palm, an elbow braced against a knee as she watches him. ]

If you are able to keep your eyes open for longer than five minutes.

[ steps into the section where his bed is in, peering out from around the corner when he hears her words. ]

With an attitude like that, I really will fall into slumber before you receive anything at all.

That'd be most unfortunate. I suppose I'll just have to add it to the rest of your growing debt.

I have absolutely no idea what you speak of.

[ & with that he wanders completely out of view, presumably to get situated for bed. ]

[ shakes her head some, remaining seated where she is for a moment to allow annabelle enough to undress & prepare himself for bed. when she feels that enough time has passed, she pushes herself back onto her feet to lazily make her way to the attached bedroom. leans against the doorway with her arms crossed. ]

So? Your verdict?

[ doesn't turn away from the mirror he's looking into, too busy concentrating on brushing his hair out. ]

On what, exactly?

Will you be sleeping, or spoiling me?

[ finally shifts in his seat, turning only slightly so that he can smile over at her. ]

Hmm. Perhaps I will be generous and go with the latter tonight.

[ quirks a small smirk. ]

Generous indeed. I'm quite flattered to be recipient of such generosity.

As you should. [ sets aside his brush, facing her fully. ] Not many are allowed to feel such affection from someone such as I.

As well as feel the fate's blessing in keeping your brother unavailable to monopolize your attentions.
