[ four weeks. that's how long he's known her, only it wasn't quite a two-way street just yet. in fact, he hadn't even been able to work up the courage to talk to her in the month that he's "known" the girl. instead he made it a habit to sit on his ~~stupid~~ bench that she always passed by when going to and from classes, unwilling to miss a chance to see her whenever possible. (not that the bench he claimed was his in the first place, but he'd like to think otherwise. nobody else sat there! so it was okay to say it was his, right...? ... no. probably not. he'll just say that he's borrowing it. sorry, other people who sit there when he's not around. he didn't mean to be so stingy.)

today is no exception, knowing that the ~~rare human-bird species~~ ~~beautiful bird-lady that's so lovely~~ ~~what's her name? he needs to know--~~ girl would be coming around in the next hour or so. (class was let out early, so it's okay to be early too. he didn't just sit there for her, after all! ~~maybe.~~) so he sets up camp at his usual place, beaming when he realizes that there are some birds gathered around the area. (there are bread crumbs on the ground! someone must have been feeding them. this is good, he likes when the birds feel welcome!) so today is a two-for-one deal, he thinks, placing his messenger bag on the bench before pulling out his (rather tattered-looking) moleskine sketchbook and turning to a new page.

feels elated when even more birds come around to peck at the ground, carefully reaching into his bag to grab some of the bird food he carries around with him for times like these. (here you go, my friends! is this to your tastes? it's okay, i won't hurt you. see, i'll toss it closer to you than me!) his smile widens when the birds seem content enough to stay around him, slowly grabbing a pencil to begin his work and wait for his mystery bird-girl. ]

No problem! [ when he's certain that it's okay, he helps him pack up. begins their walk, attention on brendan again (because he feels like this needs a push of some sort). ] So, are you dorming as well?

[ shakes his head, adjusting his bag a little bit on his shoulder. ]

Um. I'm living with my grandparents... they're not very far away, so I come by bike.

[ hums, a little impressed. ]

It gets really bad here in the winter, though. You gonna be okay then?

[ (oh, i hadn't really thought of that before... this isn't good, i probably look really stupid to him. a bike when it snows? i'd probably fall flat on my face--) ehem. eyes go to the ground, nodding. ]

P-Probably.

[ lifts a hand, jabbing a thumb into his own chest. ]

Well, if you ever need a lift, you can always count on me! I'll give you my number later, just in case.

[ (oh, wow! her friend is really nice! maybe this won't end in disaster after all...!!) flushes, obviously pleased as he nods furiously. ]

That would be great! Thank you!

[ smiles widely when he doesn't refuse the offer. ]

Of course. Any friend of Amanda's is a friend of mine, too! [ turns to ~~his chickette~~ amanda again. ] Maybe we can carpool on really bad days, if our schedules all line up. You wouldn't mind coming along when I pick him up, would you?

[ trucking along, content in listening to them talk back & forth. once again seems to come to when the conversation turns to her directly, shaking her head in response. ]

Nope. I'm okay with it. [ he seems really nice anyway. & bikes are cool, okay? she had one back when she needed to get to work, remember, lyssa? ]

[ chuckles when he reads the look on her face (her mini-silent monologue), lifting a hand to rest it gently into her ~~poof~~ hair. ]

I remember. But it's not safe when the weather is really bad!

[ see? this is why she forgets to say things outloud 'cause lyssa gets it. which is the important part. helps her save energy too.

but yeah, she knows. that's why she never said no to lyssa-rides. --well, that & it really is faster by car. she doesn't want to delay their outing just to be stubborn, you know? even if lyssa's speed driving can get a little scary sometimes. ]

I know. [ turns to brendan. ] Lyssa is a good driver. [ other than the speeding. so don't worry, okay? ]

[ tilts his head a little at the (not-)conversation, jerking slightly when amanda directs her attention to him (ahhh she's talking to me-!). but he doesn't say anything right away, almost as if he feels like she's still talking. (... ? but all she said was that he was a good driver. is she trying to say something else?) it instantly makes him happy when he thinks that's the case (just like a bird!) so he's beaming and nodding at her when snapping out of it. ]

O-Okay!

[ pleased by the answer, she gives a nod of approval. ]

Okay. [ does this mean that they (she) made a new friend...? ]

[ smiles over at them while he watches them interact, secretly pleased with it. (well, the 'conversation' was short-lived, but he thinks it'll get better with time.) but with that he starts yammering about a project he's doing, not wanting to butt into anymore of brendan's personal life (amanda can do that later, or so he hopes). it's not long until they're finally at the dorms, opening the door to his single-room suite before letting them both in.

look at their new friend as he gestures over to the couch, wandering off to go place his supplies and other things in their usual place. ]

Go ahead and take a seat. I won't be too long.

[ peers around lyssa's place in mild interest. he kind of expected a little more than what he's seeing, but... (ah, no! you're stereotyping and you don't even know him that well. i'm sorry, lyssa.) quickly shuffles on over to said couch and takes a seat, shyly averting his eyes over to amanda before letting them go back to the ground. ]

[ while she does her own thing to tuck her stuff away in her usual corner -- with the rest of her stuff, it looks like. the ponies are in another corner, you see. she couldn't fit all of them into her room (especially since she has to share it), after all. after that, she shuffles on over to the other side of the couch, arranging her dress a little as she quietly waits for lyssa (like always). ]

[ (ohmygosh she's sorta sitting next to me again-!!) --jerks his head back down, refusing to let himself stare any longer. she might get uncomfortable, after all... but he blinks when he notices those ponies in a corner, making him tilt his head a little in confusion. without thinking he lifts his head to ask lyssa when he comes back into view: ]

Is that your collection?

[ looks over his shoulder at brendan, then over at the ponies. lets out a short laugh, shaking his head. ]

No, they're not. [ inclines his head to amanda. ] They're hers, actually.

[ yes. all hers. (her friends, actually, but brendan probably can't appreciate that sentiment yet... that's okay. everyone who first meets ponies are skeptical.) ]

They're just a small part. [ of the bigger collection that's now spread between lyssa's room, her room & her apartment back at home. ]

[ looks briefly surprised at that, up until he slowly brightens at the thought. ]

That's amazing! [ turns to her more. ] How did you get started on collecting them?

[ looks a little surprised at the 'amazing' part -- most people find it weird. maybe brendan knows the beauty of ponies already? kind of like a talent. ]

I saved up and bought them when I could. [ little by little with perseverance! ]

[ brightens even more over this. (for numerous reasons, the main one being she's talking to me even more! and she collects something! like me!) he eventually nods a few times, tilting his head a bit in interest. ]

What made you decide to collect them and not something else?

[ because they're her friends. but brendan probably couldn't understand that -- yet(?), anyway. but she doesn't want to lie to him, so what could she-- oh. of course. ]

Because I like them best.

[ blinks, looking elsewhere in thought. after some time of thinking: ]

That makes sense... [ hesitantly stands, unsure. ] Is it... okay if I look at them?

[ looks (pleasantly) surprised at the question. eventually nods. ]

Yeah. [ a short pause. ] They-- you can touch them too.

[ after being given permission he wanders on over to the corner-o-ponies, all the while unaware of lyssa quietly watching them in a corner of the room. he's too busy looking them over to notice, anyway, lifting a finger to gently stroke one of the ponies with interest. even if he had never particularly been fond of these toys, he finds it a little endearing that amanda (her-!!) likes them so much. looks over his shoulder at amanda after a while, smiling widely (shyly). ]

They're... they're really cute!
