[ it was with some strange stroke of luck that nathan had confirmed the non-presence of albert, brianna, and damon in the mansion for the weekend, almost suspiciously double-checking with them all to make sure; albert was off to god knows where, brianna flew out to hawaii for a photo shoot, and damon was spending some quality time with his friends before the summer officially came to a close.

nathan didn't think it would be this simple. lo and behold, the mansion was completely his for the taking for at least two and a half days. this prompted the almost juvenile-like excitement that overcame him when he invited caleb over for a real two-night stay inside the mansion, to show him where he lived (where he didn't like to live) and let him explore what he normally did not allow people to see. so this is why he tugged at caleb's hand enthusiastically, his body betraying the way he tried to school his expression, knowing somewhere in the back of his mind that in the end it was quite a futile attempt.

stops when they're far enough inside the mansion, not bothering to let caleb's hand go as he turns slightly to look at him. ]

Well, here we are. [ a pause, as if his excitement was slowly wearing off. ] Again.

[ lifts a hand to pat caleb's hand, his smile warm and gentle. ]

Alright, alright. If you say so.

[ brings up nathan's hand to his face to nuzzle at. ]

Danke. Go together! See Deutschland!

[ tilts his head a bit, keeping that smile on his face. ]

How long do you think you'll want to stay there for?

Erm. . . long! Long as First say is okay!

[ quickly calculates in his head what he thinks the first would say. ]

I think a week would be fine... we're not the only teams around here, so Aaron and Hana'd be alright.

[ seems to come down from his cloud 9 to hesitate a bit. ]

. . . Is okay? Is really okay?

Sure. We'd have to double-check tonight just to make sure, but I don't think it'd be a problem.

[ looks down a bit, shoulders sagging in relief. ]

Danke.

[ something painful tugs inside of him at caleb's reaction, making him stand up and move a bit closer. hesitates briefly before wrapping his arms around him again, pressing the side of his face into his chest. voice wavers a bit, as if he doesn't know how to properly convey how he's feeling. ]

Sorry. That you miss your home so much. I don't know what it's like, but... it must be hard.

[ hugs him back tightly, burying his face into nathan's hair. not really thinking about anything in particular, simply taking a moment to remember & bask in the connection. closes his eyes before speaking. ]

Is hard. Is very hard. But I try, and Nathan is here. Is not always bad.

[ holds him a bit tighter as he works some things out in his mind, thus his reply is a little belated. ]

Maybe... but I still don't think you deserve this. It's too much.

[ his hold tightens a bit as he shakes his head. ]

Nein. I am wrong, and SAVE is right.

[ pets nathan's hair absently & manages to grin a bit. ]

Nathan is nice.

[ shakes his head once but stays put, burying his face into caleb again when he can't find the right words to describe how he's feeling. ]

[ loosens his hold now so that it's something more comfortable, rocking a bit as he plants a soft kiss to the crown of nathan's head. ]

[ shoulders shake a bit even when no verbal laughter comes out, shifting so that he can look up at caleb. ]

It is frustrating, not being able to say what you want to say. Too bad I don't really have an excuse.

[ the amused look is met with one of his own. nuzzles his nose against nathan's. ]

Is because English is hard!

[ goes cross-eyed momentarily at the nuzzling before going back to baseline. ]

Uh. Totally.

Yeah, but you're holding up a lot better than Hana did when she started. The only English words she could say back then was "bathroom" and "thank you".

[ perks up. ]

I learn 'bathroom' and 'danke' too! And 'bitte' and--

[ pauses. then recites mechanically: ]

I am lost. Please return me to Hilda.

... why am I not surprised.
