[ yawns and stretches as he sits on the edge of the bed, his back to the female who is slowly starting to get dressed. flops backwards to peer up at her, giving some snide remark before she pops him on the nose with a hand in retribution. forgoes the shirt he was reaching for, instead rolling off the mattress to playfully plead with her to stay for a few more hours, though the joke is already lost once she steps into the bathroom to fix her hair.

grins a bit at that but dutifully moves out of her way, making a beeline back to his bedroom. lazily scratches at his already-frizzy hair as he leans against the doorway, not paying much attention to anything in particular. eventually his expression grows dimmer, eyes going up to the ceiling before they narrow slightly. finds himself unable to throw away the feeling of uneasiness that nestles into the pit of his stomach, almost as if something terrible had happened without him knowing. ]

[ gives the girl an apologetic glance when she leaves, awkwardly shuffling his feet, but can't bring himself to resist when he's pulled along. shakes his head to clear it, stepping back a little to finally take in tony's attire. or the lack of one. can't seem to work up his usual dry humour, so he settles with what first pops into his head. ]

Shirtless again.

[ uses the hand that's in anthony's hair to slowly stroke the limp strands, the touch gentle, almost as if he'd break. shoulders relax a fraction at his comment but he also can't seem to bring anything upbeat to the table, just murmuring out one word, deciding to not push him with questions that he feels like he doesn't need just yet. ]

Yeah...

[ reaches up with both hands to grip at tony's upper arms as he continues to speak, needing to fill the silence. ]

I should have. Called. Or texted. . . sorry. I had to make a call for-- [ pauses. ] S-saying hi. It was all I could do, I don't think she. . . she shouldn't be alone right now. But I can't call her, so I-- well, it was a bit late, but if it works. . . I was a little preoccupied, so I. . . well, I don't think that really matters right now. Can you call her for me? Just. . . just make sure she's alright.

[ the frown on his face gets deeper as anthony goes on, focusing on looking him in the eye to try and decipher the parts he doesn't quite understand. gives up after his request; inhales, exhales, then carefully removes anthony's hold on him. instead he grips at a hand and leads him to the couch, placing his hands on smaller shoulders to gently guide him down onto the cushions.

pauses. squeezes those shoulders. ]

... yeah. I'll call her.

[ releases him reluctantly, slowly. reaches over to the coffee table to grab his cellphone, glancing at anthony in the corner of his eyes every now and then as he scrolls through his contact list. presses send when he gets to princess, eyes finally prying themselves away to look elsewhere.

hesitates when his hand hovers above anthony's head, making him stop again in his tracks. decides to let it rest there for a second as the connection is made between him and alyssa, as reassurance that he'll be back. and then he wanders off into his room, making himself comfortable on the wall as he begins a quiet conversation. ]

[ eyes trail after tony when he leaves, half-relieved & half-panicked to get a moment to himself. slumps forward with his elbows braced against his knees. lets his head hang between his shoulders, just like that, taking deep breaths to push aside some of the hyperventilation with deep breaths. reaches into his pocket to pull out his cellphone again, then sets it aside when he sees (knows) that there is still no contact.

leans back into the couch then, bringing up an arm to drape over his eyes as he concentrates on calming down. ]

[ comes back after a few minutes, the conversation not lasting too long (was not too profound, either). decides to set the phone on vibrate, not wanting to be disturbed yet giving some leeway if alyssa wanted to call back.

stares at anthony's back, hands crossing over his chest. sighs through his nose and makes his way to the front of the couch, gently removing the arm across anthony's face. surveys the damage, face still a bit stoic, but he says the first thing that comes to mind: ]

... heard you got into a fight, but I didn't know it was this bad.

[ expression brightens a fraction in a silent welcome back when tony enters his vision again. smiles faintly. ]

Not a fight. Just a lot of talking. [ pauses, then admits: ] Serious talking.

That's not what I meant...

[ hand goes to his hair, pushing some of it back. decides to turn the conversation around, hoping to give him some reassurance with his words. ]

She sounded okay. Not great, but fine enough.

[ belated realizes that tony is talking about the other fight -- the more physical one -- & is about to dress it when a more important bit of information takes priority over the topic of his injuries. sighs in relief & leans back again, lifting his own hand to gently nudge tony's aside. ]

That's good. Is her dad there?

[ takes that as a sign to step back a bit and sit on the edge of the coffee table. leans forward, resting his forearms on top of his knees. ]

Probably not, but he can't be too far away. She wouldn't have answered if he had been there.

[ rubs at his eyes a little & winces. pulls his hand back down. ]

Right. Thanks. [ shifts a bit, then decides to change the subject. ] I won the fight.

[ lips twitch upward into a small smile. ]

Knew you would. You've got it in you.

[ holds up his unbandaged fist for emphasis. ]

Manly. Just have to work on strikes per second.

[ shakes his head at that, setting his cellphone aside. stands up and wanders towards the kitchen. tugs open the freezer's door. ]

Why'd you attack the guy anyway? I mean, he's a jerk and all, but...

[ gets to his feet to follow tony into the kitchen for a glass of water. ]

. . . He did something unforgivable.

[ shifts things around, glad to find a pack of some kind of vegetables he picked up eons ago. catches anthony's wrist when he comes close enough, bringing the cold packet to his bruised eye. leads his hand up to it, knowing well enough that he'll hold it either way before he turns to grab a bottle of water for him instead. ]

Unforgivable, huh. [ pauses. opens the bottle. ] You don't have to tell me, of course. No pressure.

[ jerks back in surprise when the cold hits his skin, but does as silently ordered, using his hand to keep the pack in place. glances up at tony through his hair one-eyed, silent for a while as if he's gauging something. then he steps back a little so that he can lean on the counter while keeping his words simple. ]

He hurt Lyssa.

[ freezes before he's able to turn around to face anthony. glances over his shoulder at him, as if not believing him for a split second. ]

[ is silent for a long moment, turning away from anthony again. hand tightens a bit on the water bottle, having to set it down on the nearest counter as to not cave it in with his grip. eyes narrow and his voice goes dangerously cold, as if he's not himself for the moment. ]

... I see.

[ then seems to shake it off a bit as he turns to look at anthony again. leans again the refrigerator, looking him up and down. ]

... does anyone else know?

[ glances up at the tone, brows furrowing a bit. then moves the pack to his forehead instead, filing the moment away for later thought as his eyes close tiredly. ]

No. She's not for rumours.

Then we'll keep it that way.

[ belatedly realizes that the water bottle is still there, reaching over to it to hand it to anthony. ]

[ puts the pack aside so that he can reach forward to accept it, nodding in thanks. takes a sip. ]

Yeah.

. . . She wasn't happy with me.
