[ exactly three and a half months later alyssa returned from her trip with her parents, feeling refreshed and rather happy in the face of what she considered a new beginning. the change of scenery was needed, as well as the lost (& hopefully only brief) contact between friends gave her more of a reason to keep going on strong; to mend things, to make things right again.

it is now that she returns to the campus, having decided that it was best to move back in with her parents for the time being. thinks she merely missed home too much to properly focus on things that needed to be focused on, knowing that the change was necessary and very much so welcomed (from her dad especially). at the moment she resides under one of the trees a bit further out from the building where her first class was held in, contently reading a book to pass the hours until her next class started. flips through it leisurely, eyes trained to focus on that and nothing more. tucks a strand of now-short hair behind an ear, feeling calm and at peace with the world as a whole. ]

[ the gleam in her eyes returns immediately. holds onto his arm a bit tighter, as if giving him a full-on hug. ]

Yay! Thank you! You're the best~

[ just nods, not knowing what else to say until they finally reach the cafeteria with the many ice cream selections available. gives her a small nudge & finally gives into the nagging feeling of needing to pull away. uses the same hand to motion at the showcased flavours. ]

One of each?

[ surveys the selection, a finger to her mouth as she concentrates on deciding. ]

Hmm... maybe just vanilla. With rainbow sprinkles on top.

Weak.

[ pouts over at him. ]

I'm not that hungry! My tummy has been hurting lately, I can't help it!

[ scrunches his nose in mock disapproval. ]

Excuses. Ice cream has feelings too.

[ scoots away from him. ]

Wah... no love.

[ shoulders seem to very slowly relax as he also inspects the choices. then points at three, seemingly random flavours. ]

One of each of these.

[ smiles at him widely after they've taken their orders, wiggling to get in front of him as if it's a race of some sort. ]

I'm paying!

[ freezes mid-way while pulling out his wallet, blinking. then he starts trying to edge closer to the cashier first. ]

No one pays for my calories.

No!

[ uses one hand to push his face away, the other digging into her bag to pull out her wallet. quickly fumbles, grabs her debit card, then slaps it onto the counter. ]

[ by then he's managed to draw a twenty out, making him flail it in the air so that the cashier can see it when he's pushed backward. ]

Cash beat debit!

[ jumps up and down, still attempting to push him out of the way, completely blind to the weird looks they're getting from the people around them. ]

No, no, no! Me instead, me instead!

[ & pushed away he is, making him backpedal into another set of friends that had been watching & waiting with half-amused expressions. looks ready to join back into the race when he remembers to mind his manners to apologize to them shortly with his usual explanation. ]

She's a rich kid.

[ cheers happily, arms up in the air and everything. takes her card back after it's paid for, juggling that and the ice cream as she scoots out of line to stand near the tables. turns to anthony finally, handing his over. ]

Here you go~!

[ stares at the ice cream & makes a face. ]

Not hungry.

[ expression quickly falls, her shoulders following suit. ]

But... I'm just trying to do something nice...

[ starts at the sudden shift, blinking. accepts the ice cream out of her hands. ]

. . . And I'm teasing?

[ stares at him a bit blankly, slowly letting her gaze drop to the floor. almost looks like she wants to say or do something for a moment, but in the end she munches on her ice cream and shuffles back towards the exit. ]

[ sighs & rubs at his forehead in an oncoming bout of confused frustration before he propels himself to follow after her again. once he's closer to being side-by-side, tilts his ice cream toward her. ]

[ turns her attention to him again, blinking down at the ice cream. ]

What kind is it?

[ points to the appropriate colours as he speaks. ]

Strawberry, rainbow sherbet, mango.

[ beams and leans in to take a bite out of it. licks her lips, smiling at him when she decides that she likes it. ]

It's really good!

[ nods & takes a bite of his own. ]

Good combination.

[ goes back to noming on her own, a thought striking her at the last minute. lifts her ice cream towards him, leaving the leftovers of her own last bite still on her mouth and lips as she smiles up at him happily. ]
