[ isn't entirely there even when the plane comes to a complete stop; the noise ringing in his head is as painful as he remembers it being, making him sway a bit while pressing a hand to his forehead. the world before his eyes seems to double, triple, merge back into one, then double again, while the blueprint-world throbs in noisy emptiness. makes small whimpering noises when they're walking, barely hanging onto consciousness by focusing on that comforting, erratic heartbeat he knows is near.

gropes around for a smaller hand that he knows is around (but can't remember why it would be right this moment) while mumbling absentmindedly under his breath in german, as if he's welcoming himself back home. ]

[ twists his head a bit to look up at him fully, still keeping his hold on caleb's other hand. ]

I'd stay here too if I could. So no need for thanks.

[ blinks. ]

SAVE say no to Nathan too?

[ releases a hand to push his face away a little. ]

[ bounces right back. ]

Ehhh. . .

[ wraps that hand around caleb's again. looks away, mumbling: ]

I meant that it wouldn't mean anything if you weren't here with me.

. . . ! [ despite the lightbulb, he doesn't respond immediately, trying to make sense of some additional questions that he has. but in the end he decides against voicing them for now, merely lifting his free hand to pat at some of nathan's hair. ]

Then come again. Come to Deutschland again together, when it is okay.

[ there is a typical blush across his nose and cheeks, though he looks up for a split second this time instead of completely hiding it. curls up a bit more, giving a tiny nod. ]

O-okay. I'll try to learn more German, too.

Ja! Learn with Nathan. Nathan learn Deutsch, I learn English!

[ can't help but reach up and prod caleb's nose upward again. says jokingly: ]

Cool. It's a date, then.

[ ... & of course takes it literally: ]

. . . ! Ja! Date! Date with Nathan!

[ expression wavers a little at that. ]

I didn't-- [ no, just decides to stop right there. ] Alright. Date.

[ holds up his pinky finger. ]

Versprechen?

[ blinks at it. carefully lifts his hand, pinky finger extended. ]

Verspr... whatever.

[ hooks their pinkies together & repeats the word more slowly. ]

Versprechen.

[ makes a weird face while concentrating on repeating after him: ]

Ver-spre-chen.

[ nods excitedly. ]

Good, good! Very good!

Huh. Guess I'm getting the hang of it.

[ releases their pinky so he can brush at nathan's cheek again. ]

Ja. Then speak Deutsch when Nathan want always.

[ decides against saying anything to that, instead bumping his head gently against that hand. wiggles and sits up finally, making sure his hair isn't too messed up. glances out the window. ]

Looks like it's still raining... [ & then looks at caleb, blinking. ] You're not bored?

[ draws his hand back when nathan sits up. picks up his mug again to take another sip. ]

Nein. Together with Nathan. So is fun, good, and nice.

[ picks up his own mug, if only for something to do. ]

Yeah, same here, though for some reason I feel like I'm missing something. [ hums in thought... ]

[ blinks when it comes to mind. ]

I know, it's that book. Did you read it yet?

[ scratches the back of his head. ]

Erm. . . nein. With Nathan, see Deutschland, so put book in bag to bring to house to read later.

Oh. [ taps a finger on the mug, staring down at it. back to caleb, feeling a little shy when he asks: ] D-does Hilda make you a lot of books?

[ nods. ]

Ja. Hilda know a lot, and she is good teacher. Is easy to learn with Hilda.
