[ he's not really surprised to come home to an empty house, even on a saturday. he doesn't even need to call riku to know where he is; instead, he rolls his eyes to the ceiling in a long-suffering manner as he moves over the kitchen table to set the costco-bought cookies for riku's monday class. then he goes about his usual rituals: checking the fridge, making a note on the portable white-board on what they need to go shopping for, pouring himself a bowl of cereal & peeking in the bathroom to check on the ducks.

he spends a good ten minutes petting them (quack, quack) before he remembers the cereal -- now soggy. but he eats it anyway, slipping on his reading glasses to flip through the latest science journal that sora had received a free subscription while tucked into the corner of the couch, waiting for riku to get home. ]

Mm. Though it's probably something that should be discussed in the near future.

[ shifts a bit. ]

I know. I don't. . . I'm not looking forward to it.

[ a long pause, and then: ]

... do you think he'd want to go with him?

[ holds his breath for a second. then breathes out. ]

. . . It's not impossible.

[ plants a small kiss to the top of his head. ]

It'll be his decision, in the end. [ tries to look at his face, smiling. ] You felt the same way with me, right?

[ is silent as he returns the smile briefly before resting his head back down, gripping onto riku's hand with a semi-tight grip regardless. ]

Things will work themselves out in time. [ removes a hand to reach down and pick up the last piece of sandwich, wiggling it in front of rob's face. ] For now, sandwiches are of utmost importance.

[ stares at the sandwich for a moment, then up at riku. ]

That's just pieces of bread, more than a sandwich.

...

[ just shoves it into rob's mouth. ]

. . . !!

[ hrrmph is the noise he makes, trying to chew around it, or spit it out. whatever comes first. ]

[ puts his hand in front of his companion's mouth, making sure he doesn't spit it out. ]

Delicious, isn't it? I have a lot more where that came from.

[ manages somehow to chew & swallow. snorts when he can. ]

Keep it. I think soup might be better.

[ removes the hand, shifting it back to rob's hair. strokes the strands as he quirks an eyebrow upward. ]

I'll make sure to leave dinner up to you, then.

You misunderstand. I'm giving you suggestions.

Oh, no, I insist.

Fine. Then I decline.

I suppose we'll starve to death, then.

Or you could cook.

[ goes limp in a dramatic attempt to show off his exhaustion. ]

Let's order Chinese food instead.

I have delicate digestive systems. Sora made it so.

Have plain white rice. I hear it's pretty good.

You can have that. I'd like homemade soup.

Japanese? Thai? Italian? Mexican? Anything I don't have to cook?

[ a pause. ]
