[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

[ looks around & settles down on the chair, not minding the way that the zipper seems to making a slightly hrk sound at her back. tugs at one of the clumped pieces of poofy hair, wondering if she could cut it. if there were scissors out there that was possible of cutting it.

or she could go to a hairdresser, but it'd be a bit of a pain to look for ones that she hasn't tried in this city yet. none of them liked her hair very much... ]

[ while she monologues, he's digging to the back of the rack he found the dress on before sighing in relief when a few more come into view. flips the tag to see if it's a size up, shrugging when it's two. should fit regardless, or so he thinks.

weaves in and out of the rows of dresses, standing tall when he returns and holds it out to her again. ]

Okay, try this one!

[ gets to her feet & accepts the dress. in & out she goes of the change room again, the process almost the same. only this time, the dress is looser on her & she seems pretty pleased by it when she reappears. ]

This one's more comfortable.

[ looks up from playing with the straps on the last dress, blinking. after a pause he leans in. after another long pause: ]

... can I buy you that? You look really good in it.

Nope. [ reaches over to give him a short pat on the shoulder. ] Thanks, but I know what I'm wearing.

No, I meant for like... [ gestures a bit with a hand. ] Like, if I asked you to go to one of those parties I always go to with my parents. Not for prom night.

[ hm... oh, wait. ]

I have dresses for things like that too.

I know but... this one's more... uh. "Modern".

80's is only thirty years into the past. It's not that old.

But this one was made in 2011. I don't think the 80's can beat that...

It's okay. Fashion cycles.

[ shoulders drop a bit. ]

Well... alright, then. [ shoos her off into the dressing room. ] I think that's enough trying on dresses for now.

[ looks down at the dress. looks at drooped shoulders. hair poofs a bit in distress.

she wouldn't wear this thing. ever. but lyssa's all droopy-- ]

Um. Well, for Christmas. [ even if she doesn't celebrate it, but lyssa does? ] Maybe. [ if both of them remember it. & if lyssa really, really wants to. ]

[ brightens automatically, giving her the thumbs-up. ]

Christmas it is, then!

[ please forget.

... time to change out of this. be right back, lyssa. & she waddles back into the change room, taking off the dress so that she can slip her normal (& more comfortable) clothes on. purse placed back across her chest, she shuffles on out.

looks around blankly. ]

Can I just leave this on the chair?

No, darling, you must put it back in its proper place. [ takes the dresses into his arms, winking over at her as he walks back into the main part of the store. ] It's the only proper thing to do, after all.

[ but they pay people to do that.

they might even appreciate it.

look at them. dead-eyed & bored, wandering around the store, asking people if they need help. 90% of the answers are around the vicinity of 'no', right? ]

I'm only being a gentlemen. [ as if he heard her, per usual. starts putting the dresses away. ] You should always clean your own messes.

[ well, lyssa looks happy about it, so it's not a big thing, she supposes. ]

Aye, sir. [ she'll keep that in mind the next time she goes shopping. if she ever goes shopping... ]

[ nods and gestures to her so he can put his arm around her shoulder again, humming in a bit as they mosey on out of the store and back into the crowd. ]

So where is this store of yours that's selling those ponies?

I don't remember. But there are lots of maps around. [ so they'll be okay as soon as they can find one. ]

Then let's find one!

[ & thus begins his search for said map, leading them to one that he spots after a few minutes. peers at the selection of stores, then over at amanda. ] See it anywhere?

[ nope.

because straight ahead is bubble tea. ]

Hey. Pit stop?

[ blinks, head tilting slightly. turns to look in the direction she's drawing her attention to, smiling slowly. ]

Bubble tea it is!

I got paid the other day. [ so she can treat herself and lyssa! could she do that? ]
