[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

[ takes that as cue to scoop her up into his arms, simultaneously giving her a hug while moving them toward the kitchen area. ]

Good girl. Biggest slice as usual?

[ nods excitedly. then stops, feeling guilty at the prospect of taking it all for herself. and thus: ]

Will uncle have enough for himself, too...?

[ balances her into one arm before he opens the fridge & looks around for the box-- oh, there it is. pulls it out & sets it on the table. ]

Mhmm. Should be more than enough for the three of us.

[ thinks about this. after she's certain it's okay: ]

Okay... then I want the biggest piece.

[ stands from her spot on the couch to come help. ]

You forgot to say something.

[ glances at robin. thinks again... light bulb goes off. ]

"Please"?

[ walks over to plant a kiss on the top of her head, moving around the kitchen to grab some plates. ]

Yes. Remember to always say "please" and "thank you".

[ nods, pleased she got it right. back to nick, she corrects herself: ]

I want the biggest piece, please!

[ gives her a gentle squeeze of approval & puts her down so that he could fetch the knife. ]

Think you can get us some cups? They're in the dishwasher.

[ gives him a few more nods in reply, scurrying over to the dishwasher to open it and take out the cups one at a time. (while humming the my little pony theme song, of course.) when she has them on the counter she tilts her head a little, trying to figure out how to juggle all three of them in her hands... then just scoots them along the counter until they're by nick. ]

[ by that time, he's fetched the knife & cutting the cheesecake into slices, pointedly making alice's the biggest out of the three. hearing the clanking of the cups & feeling her approach him again, he takes one of the plates that robin had pulled out, he placed treat on it & brought it down to alice's level so that she could take it. ]

Thanks, doodlebug. Here you go.

[ sets a (smaller, more colorful) fork on alice's plate when she takes it, placing a hand on her head to stop her when she's about to start munching on the cheesecake. ]

What are you supposed to say when someone gives you something?

[ pauses in mid-stab to look up at nick. ]

Thank you!

[ strokes her hair. ]

Good girl. [ nudges her gently when she turns around to waddle back into the living room, turning her attention to nick as she takes her own plate. hands over a fork to him. ] Did you purchase it on a whim?

[ finishes getting a piece for himself & closes the box before accepting the fork. ]

Kind of. Not for me, but to share with you and Alice.

[ raises an eyebrow with a smile, stabbing and taking a bite of the cheesecake while leaning on the counter. tone is playful when she speaks: ]

You don't feed your "friend"?

[ gives a dismissive wave & takes a bite of the treat himself. ]

Just sometimes, when he stays over long enough. Pizza, etcetra.

[ chuckles in amusement. ]

Glad to see that your manners are still around, then.

What can I say? Some lessons just stay with you. [ just like that flick he'd inherited from her. ]

[ speaking of that famous flick of hers-- uses a hand to do just that in the middle of nick's forehead. ]

And you pass this wisdom on to others, right?

[ twitches back in a long-time habit, the fork dropping onto his plate as he rubs at his forehead on reflex. ]

I don't know if this is worth passing on, sis.

[ eats another part of the cake, setting it aside on the counter before taking a few steps to the fridge. ]

I bet you do anyway. [ opens the fridge door, peering inside. ] What would you like to drink?

[ takes another bite. ]

Orange juice, if there's any left.

[ hums in approval, taking the cups so she can fill one with orange juice (tosses away the empty carton), one with milk (sniffs it first to make sure that it's actually good), then one with some water for herself. hands him his cup, walking to the living room with the rest of her items in hand. ]

Wine. [ sets the glass of milk next to alice's plate. ] That's on my list of things you should keep over here for when I visit.

[ takes the cup & follows after her, settling himself next to alice when they're back out in the living room. raises an eyebrow. ]

Sure, why not? Red or white?
