[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

[ hums in consideration as they approach his car, opening the door for amanda. ]

Maybe you should pursue being an avian veterinarian instead.

[ slips in without a word of complaint, busily strapping on the seatbelt once she's seated & comfortable. glances up at him when she's done with that. ]

But my mom's school doesn't offer that program.

[ leans on the frame of the car, poking his head in to lean over her a bit. ]

Still plan on majoring in art?

[ fiddles with the strap of her bag in thought. ]

Art history, I think. . .

[ hums, slightly impressed by her choice. ]

Do you want to attend a local college?

No, I still want to go to my mom's.

Huh. That's far away from your dad, though. Will he be okay?

He'll understand. [ hopefully.

... he could move with her? ]

[ considers her for a moment. smiles widely again. ]

Well, if I stick around, I'll be sure to keep him company!

[ nods. if she could entrust her dad to anyone, it'd have to be lyssa. ]

Keep an eye on his cheeseburger intake.

[ pats the top of the car, moving to hold the frame of the door instead. ]

After he binges, I promise I'll put him on a diet.

[ shuts the door and then circles the car to the passenger's side, hopping on in before buckling himself in. ]

[ gives lyssa another nod in gratitude. ]

Okay. But nothing too severe. [ he'd mope otherwise. ]

[ beams at nothing in particular as he starts the car and pulls out into the street. ]

Maybe I'll make him be a vegetarian!

[ shakes her head. ]

He'll never last. [ & then he'll start binging. ]

[ hums a little in agreement. ]

You're right, it would be too drastic of a change... [ pause for thought. ends up just shrugging. ] I'll just make sure he only eats McDonalds once every two weeks or so.

Every two weeks? [ noooo--! more like two months! two years! please! ]

I never said he had to buy a hamburger... I'll make him get the salads, how about that?

[ ... oh. ooooh that would be good. ]

Okay. [ maybe french fries if he's been extra good? ]

I'll give him some of my fries once in a while. [ pauses briefly as he turns a corner. ] But if I don't stick around, does he have anyone else that can keep an eye on him?

[ thinks for a moment, then nods slowly. ]

I think so. [ tofu, maybe. but putting her dad & tofu together made her worry even more. maybe her aunt...? dad's brothers? hmm. ]

Good. I can officially leave the country feeling a little less guilty, then!

[ blinks in surprise. ]

Really? [ lyssa wanted to leave the country? ... she didn't know this. while that's okay ('cause lyssa really didn't have to tell her everything), it would've been nice to have gotten a head-start on a farewell present...

maybe she could give him a pony? nah. a gundam... maybe not. a new bag? but he could probably get new bags wherever he was going. oh, maybe a dreidel? he likes those, right? ]

[ while she's monologuing, he's busy shrugging and turning yet another corner. ]

If I happen to get accepted to a school overseas, yes. My mom and dad are taking me to London in the summer to check out the ones I applied for. I'll probably stay here, though.
