[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

[ checks his watch before resting the arm across the back of amanda's chair, relaxing back into his own. ]

Yeah, it doesn't "officially" start for another ten minutes or so. [ smiles over at her. ] Bored already?

Impatient for the magic.

It's fine, don't feel bad. Prom is mostly for people who're dating, anyway. [ pauses, thinking. ] Or people who want to steal someone else's date, I suppose.

[ wordlessly glances over at the pack of jealous ~~bitches~~ girls in another corner of the room. ]

[ follows her line of sight in mid-sip of his drink. waves them off. ]

Ignore them, they'll get over it once they graduate and go into college.

[ no, she's pretty sure some of them were crazy enough to follow lyssa into art college despite having no talent at all in art, but-- ]

I think they're scarier than pony eaters.

[ attention is drawn entirely away from the girls, staring at amanda. ]

People eat ponies?

Not just people, but other animals too. [ because ponies are gentle souls. ]

People don't do it any more though. [ probably. not a lot? only when they're stuck in a cave in the middle of a blizzard with nothing but the pony to eat. ...it still makes her sad a little. ]

Oh. Well, that sucks. [ gets comfortable in his seat again, even if he droops when a thought strikes him. ] My aunt wouldn't like this topic very much...

[ her poof droops too. ]

I don't like it either. [ actually, she hates it. 'cause... ponies! they're so full of sparkle & magic that they're better kept alive anyway. ]

Then let's talk about you instead. [ shifts so he's facing more of her than the room. ] How do you feel about slow dancing?

[ she's seen it on television once or twice. ]

I don't know. [ hard to say when one didn't know how to dance. at all. ]

[ laughs, lifting his free hand to brush some of her ~~poof~~ hair behind an ear. ]

I meant if you were comfortable dancing with me.

Oh. [ ... lyssa had to ask? ] Yes. [ of course she was. even if she would take away all of lyssa's cool points, she's comfortable with the idea, yes. ]

Great! [ drinks down the rest of what he has in the cup. ] But I'll let it slide if someone else comes up and asks you to dance with them.

I'm not worried.

[ because that won't happen. vice versa on the other hand... ]

Well I am. What if someone tries to take my beautiful date away...

[ maybe he hadn't been able to read her mind that time-- ]

Don't worry. [ it really won't happen, lyssa. gives his hand a pat. see? all yours for the night. ]

[ blinks down at her hand, then up at her. ]

Why shouldn't I worry? You look amazing.

I'm only a level up from normal. [ in contrast, lyssa's on full throttle at ~~power~~ level 100.

... well, no. if you count the suit, it's at least level 150? hmm. ]

[ lifts a hand, (lightly) placing it on her head. ]

You really don't give yourself enough credit, honey.

[ & the poof wiggles while she honestly doesn't seem bothered by her admission of being average because -- well, that's what she is. (or rather, that's what her dad is, so that's all that she could be, yes?) ]

[ shakes his head at her, unsure if he should be amused or not. doesn't have a chance to say anything else, however, as more people begin to pile in when the music starts. it's upbeat, nothing he particularly feels would be to amanda's tastes, so he continues to stay there even when people come over to say hi and ask if they would like to join them. declines politely (after sneaking a glance at his date to make sure that she was okay with it) and after some conversation most of the teens are on the dance floor instead of sitting out on the sidelines like they are.

just smiles over at her after watching the rest of his peers have a good time, leaning in so he can talk to her without having to raise his voice too much. ]

I'll make them change to something more mellow in a bit. Got any requests?

[ plays around with her dress a little, making it swish left & right while she watches & listens the prom go underway. blinks at the question & immediately ,her brain goes: my little pony or gundam--

but they probably didn't have those, huh. ]
