[ is holding a book when he comes within sight, a different one from the one he had been reading just yesterday. looks a little tired, though he seems to perk up a little when he sees her by the window; approaches without preamble or an invitation. does not speak, merely following her line of sight out the window, trying to see what she is seeing. ]

[ doesn't have to turn around to know he's there, but she allows the silence to carry on for the moment, still too busy looking at the rain. after a minute she speaks in her normal slightly monotone voice, not bothering to give any physical indication of her knowledge. ]

Hello, Albert.

[ startles a bit; to his credit, it's a noiseless surprise, though he can feel his heart beat behind his ribs. sighs after a while & looks a bit embarrassed, strangely feeling as if he had been caught red-handed. ]

Hi.

[ continues her staring as she parts her lips to speak again, almost as if she's openly attempting conversation. ]

How are you?

I'm okay. [ shifts a bit before he decides on something, lowering himself to the ground to sit down. sets the book to the side & draws up his legs toward his chest to wrap his arms around the knees. looks up at the window, eyes flickering once in a while to its corners at her. ]

You?

I am very well, thank you.

[ eventually turns her attention towards him and tilts her head, as if asking if he needs anything or if something is wrong. ]

[ doesn't notice the look as he's keeping his eyes toward the the window. ]

Oh. That's good. [ a small pause. ] Are you just watching the rain?

Yes. [ nods once and turns back to the window, a finger tracing the cool glass. ] There are shapes here that are interesting to me.

[ peers at the window again in honest curiosity. ]

Like what?

Rabbits. [ traces a shape with her finger. ] Stars. [ does it again, pausing longer this time. ] Faces.

[ slowly unwinds so that he can lean forward to look at the raindrops more closely. ]

... I don't see them?

It's because you're looking for them.

[ lets her hand slide down to rest on her knee, turning to look at albert again. ] They don't show up if you do.

[ tucks his chin against his knees. ]

That's hard, though.

[ tilts her head an inch. ]

Why?

Because... I'm looking because I want to see them? If I'm not looking, then... [ trails off, nose crinkling a bit as he had just succeeded in confusing himself. ]

[ blinks a few times as she stares at him, as if expecting him to come around full-circle to an answer. turns her head to the window again when he does not say anything more. ]

You have to let them come to you.

[ emits a small "hmm" & closes his eyes, trying to keep his breathing even. there is another long moment -- long, at least to him -- before he finally speaks. ]

Can you... sing? Please?

[ does not hesitate to speak when her eyes move towards him. ]

Of course. [ shifts so she's seated on her legs & knees, facing him. ] What would you like me to sing, Albert?

[ doesn't look up at her, face going a little warm as he considers the question. ]

Um... anything? Anything nice.

[ nods and closes her eyes, going through her memories of song as if she could visually pluck a CD from a shelf & go from there. it takes her some time to finally choose, inhaling deeply, exhaling silently.

[ relaxes under the weight of her voice, lips curling just slightly into a pleased smile as he listens to the combined music of her song & the rhythm of the rain, body slowly relaxing. quietly hums along, not loud enough to disturb her, just enough so that it rings in his own ears as he follows the soft beat. ]

[ when she finishes the melody her eyes do not open, basking in the quiet hum of silence that surrounds them. without looking she reaches out her hand to one of his own, holding onto it lightly after a brief & gentle squeeze. ]

[ notices that the song is only by the squeeze at his hand; jerks out of his reverie to smile more widely. ]

That was really good.

[ nods and straightens, as if the approval dismissed her. ]

[ uncurls from his current position. ]

Where are you going?
