[ it felt like bad luck the moment his cellphone rang and woke him up after four hours of sleep. it felt like even worse luck when said person on the other line told nathan that he would be saying hello to their fifth and final member to the 'team'-- alone, which was apparently due to personal reasons from his other three co-workers. this did not deter nathan from furiously texting aaron in anger, only to get a short can't come as a reply. he didn't even bother texting hana, as she still had difficulties texting with an english-language phone, but he still called her and got her voicemail message, which only made him seethe even further.

the anger eventually subsided when coffee was deposited into his hands, drinking his life force happily (or as happy as nathan could get) while turning the corner from starbucks to sit on one of the many chairs littering the front of the shop. once he settled in and tossed his bag onto the table, nathan finally felt like all was right in the world, completely forgetting his original objective for the day. his coffee was his second love, after all, and it deserved his complete and undivided attention. ]

[ scratches the back of his neck, feeling a bit uncomfortable since he realizes this would be the first time he's ever done this before; ]

I don't know of any places like that, but you could come to my house. [ pauses. glances sideways. ] I guess.

. . . !

Ja! Very good, Nathan's house!

[ the expression makes him tilt head a little once the excitement wears off a little, making him decide to double check. ]

Is okay?

[ raises an eyebrow, leaning forward a bit to rest his forehead on the table with a light 'thud'. ]

[ props his chin up a bit so that he could properly look at caleb again, though his expression isn't as harsh, instead a mix of something even he wouldn't have been able to read. ]

It's okay. Really.

. . .

[ ... decides not to think on this any longer, settling comfortably in the flattered feeling of being invited while nodding. ]

I am good at quiet.

[ shrugs, flipping out his phone again to call a cab. ]

You don't have to be. The place is big enough, so... [ pauses when he gets to the number, averting his gaze up to caleb again. ] It's too far to walk. Driving is fine, right?

[ looks down at the table for a moment, looking a little conflicted, but his face is back to normal when looks back up. ]

Ja. Hoffentlich. Long time?

[ raises an eyebrow at him again, trying not to feel slightly irritated. ]

Not that long, but if you want to walk-- [ shuts his phone. ]

[ shakes his head quickly, looking apologetic as well as wanting to both explain in his broken english & wishing he had brought his dictionary at once. ]

Ach! Nein, car is okay. Is not Nathan wrong. I am wrong.

[ frowns further and sits up straight, lacing his fingers together before placing his elbows on the edge of the table. narrows his eyes a bit. ]

... are you scared of cars? I don't really like them either, but...

[ shakes head again. ]

Erm. Not good feel in car. Too fast.

[ instantly picks up on that, eyes widening for a split second in realization. ]

Oh, you get carsick? [ ponders on this, piecing together what they've talked about so far. tries to mentally troubleshoot, and then: ] Hold on.

[ opens his cellphone again and punches in a few things, making a few odd faces as he does so. sends the message and leans back in his seat, staring at it as he waits. ]

[ opens the new message when his phone vibrates, reading it over quickly; does this a few more times, going back to his contact list afterward to get his personal driver's number. taps his fingers lightly on the table as he waits for the person to pick up, even if he hears a voice after the first ring. ]

Hey, I need a ride. [ pauses, listening. ] The closest Starbucks, I dunno the address. [ listens again and sighs. ] I'll be outside, then. You'd better be quick about this.

[ exhales deeply again, feeling more exhausted than he's usually used to feeling so early in the afternoon. gathers himself, nonetheless, giving caleb a look that is neither friendly nor professional; something in the middle. ]

I didn't understand before, but now I do. [ tucks the phone in his pocket and stands. ] Don't worry, this car is safe. You won't get sick in it.

[ blinks at him curiously through the entire cellphone exchange but otherwise keeps silent, only moving to stand when nathan does, scratching the back of his head a little. ]

[ looks thankful at the reassurance however, even when he has already convinced himself that a short trip wouldn't hurt at all. ]

Danke schön, Nathan. For care.

[ reaches down to pick up the last drink and shove the uneaten food back in the bag, pausing to blink up at caleb. stands up straight again, chewing on the edge of the straw before murmuring: ]

... welcome.

[ picking up the trash when he hears it, which he answers with a bright smile. quickly goes around the table to throw everything away -- bumping into a chair & a kid (ach! Entschuldigung!) on the way -- & returns, hovering around as he waits for nathan to finish readying his things. ]
