[ it was with some strange stroke of luck that nathan had confirmed the non-presence of albert, brianna, and damon in the mansion for the weekend, almost suspiciously double-checking with them all to make sure; albert was off to god knows where, brianna flew out to hawaii for a photo shoot, and damon was spending some quality time with his friends before the summer officially came to a close.

nathan didn't think it would be this simple. lo and behold, the mansion was completely his for the taking for at least two and a half days. this prompted the almost juvenile-like excitement that overcame him when he invited caleb over for a real two-night stay inside the mansion, to show him where he lived (where he didn't like to live) and let him explore what he normally did not allow people to see. so this is why he tugged at caleb's hand enthusiastically, his body betraying the way he tried to school his expression, knowing somewhere in the back of his mind that in the end it was quite a futile attempt.

stops when they're far enough inside the mansion, not bothering to let caleb's hand go as he turns slightly to look at him. ]

Well, here we are. [ a pause, as if his excitement was slowly wearing off. ] Again.

[ is half-distracted by the approaching deliverer of food. his head turns slightly in that direction when it hits the five-minute warning mark. ]

Is okay if not special. If with Nathan, is good.

[ just looks out towards the gate's front entrance, giving a tiny shrug. ]

I guess.

[ starts shuffling around for his wallet. ]

What Nathan do when at house?

[ doesn't even give it a moment's thought: ]

I stay in my room.

[ doesn't miss a beat. ]

Do what in room?

[ looks up at the sky, a brief look of confusion on his face as he thinks. ]

I dunno. I sit in there?

[ stares at him a little. ]

House is not home?

... no.

[ then shakes his head, looking up at him with a tiny smile. ]

Can't do much about it, though. No use in complaining.

[ blinks, then a slow, answering smile crosses his face. but before he can speak, his head whips around toward the gate entrance, the rest of his body propelling itself down the few steps on time for the pizza delivery truck to stop & stroll on toward the bulk of the mansion. pays the man & waves off the change as he spins around to present the pizza at nathan when he returns to where the younger boy is standing. ]

Pizza! Is hungry, ja? Eat, eat!

[ leans back a little when caleb enthusiastically returns, blinking down at the pizza owlishly. another smile creeps up his face soon enough, one that's less sad and sweeter in flavor. ]

Yeah... thank you.

[ sets the pizza down on the ground & leans in to peck him lightly on the lips. face remains hovering in front of nathan's. ]

Gern geschehen.

[ a blush comes to his face again at the contact, eyes wisely going to the ground. ]

W-what does that mean?

[ settles down on the ground to open up the box of pizza. ]

Erm. . . close to 'you're welcome'? Not all 'you're welcome' but close.

[ blinks down at him, momentarily forgetting their plans. sits too after the moment has passed. ]

Oh. [ reaches for a piece of pizza. ] You guys have a lot of ways for saying different things.

Ja. Is why is easy to say from here.

[ puts a hand over his chest. ]

[ watches the movement, giving him a soft smile after some thought. ]

You're good at that.

[ pauses in mid-bite to say: ]

Danke! I try, because it is important.

[ takes a bite of his own. ]

You're better at it than most people are.

[ busily bites into his, speaking only when he's half-way done his slice. ]

Nein! Hilda is very good!

[ feels a twinge of something when hearing her name, keeping to his pizza before murmuring: ]

Um. How's she doing, anyway?

She is good! Back in Home. She is busy.

[ gives a tiny nod in acknowledgment while finishing his first piece of pizza. reaches to take another. ]

Have you thought about going back to see her sometime?

[ finishes swallowing the last of his first slice & nods. ]

Ja! Hilda and Home. I miss Home.

[ peers over at him curiously. ]
