[ he's not really surprised to come home to an empty house, even on a saturday. he doesn't even need to call riku to know where he is; instead, he rolls his eyes to the ceiling in a long-suffering manner as he moves over the kitchen table to set the costco-bought cookies for riku's monday class. then he goes about his usual rituals: checking the fridge, making a note on the portable white-board on what they need to go shopping for, pouring himself a bowl of cereal & peeking in the bathroom to check on the ducks.

he spends a good ten minutes petting them (quack, quack) before he remembers the cereal -- now soggy. but he eats it anyway, slipping on his reading glasses to flip through the latest science journal that sora had received a free subscription while tucked into the corner of the couch, waiting for riku to get home. ]

I wonder how he forgot that he'd keep aging, even if we didn't.

I don't think his lifespan mattered to him as much at the time.

[ gives his upper arm up. speaks quietly, only a bit exasperated rather than his disgust from before things had worked out. ]

I know. But I still wish he'd have remembered a few things.

[ strokes his hair a little, side of his face tilted slightly to rest on the cushion of the couch. ]

It's in the past. Everything's worked out so far, hasn't it?

It makes me a bit uneasy. We don't have good luck for this long.

[ side-glances him with an eye. ]

What do you mean?

. . . It's just worry. Nevermind.

[ a long pause, then quietly: ]

Sora wants a natural lifespan.

... [ hand stills at his words. ] Did he say why?

He's tired. [ a short pause, gathering his thoughts. ] He told me that he thinks he's lived long enough.

[ quiets for a moment, eventually sighing while pressing his forehead against the crown of rob's head. ]

I guess I can't blame him.

I don't either. But. . .

[ reaches for a hand instinctively, wanting further connection. ]

It still worries me.

[ takes that hand, squeezing it gently. ]

Yeah. It's too soon to ask, but you know him.

[ shifts a bit. ]

I know. I don't. . . I'm not looking forward to it.

[ a long pause, and then: ]

... do you think he'd want to go with him?

[ holds his breath for a second. then breathes out. ]

. . . It's not impossible.

[ plants a small kiss to the top of his head. ]

It'll be his decision, in the end. [ tries to look at his face, smiling. ] You felt the same way with me, right?

[ is silent as he returns the smile briefly before resting his head back down, gripping onto riku's hand with a semi-tight grip regardless. ]

Things will work themselves out in time. [ removes a hand to reach down and pick up the last piece of sandwich, wiggling it in front of rob's face. ] For now, sandwiches are of utmost importance.

That's just pieces of bread, more than a sandwich.

[ hrrmph is the noise he makes, trying to chew around it, or spit it out. whatever comes first. ]
