[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

Great! [ resumes their walk, a little skip in his steps. ] Don't worry, you don't have to buy them. I just want to see them on you!

[ follows along, still a bit confused. ]

I think they make simulating programs for things like that. . .

But those programs don't hold the full essence of a real human being! [ winks over at her. ] They aren't you, either, so I take that into account, too.

[ looks down at self briefly. ]

You have my measurements? I didn't gain over the week.

[ uses his free hand to push at her hair a little. ]

But the simulation wouldn't have your hair. That's a key point, you know!

[ the hair seems to bounce. ]

Oh, right. . . [ unless there was an option where they could add an afro to the simulation's head. or a fat cat. ]

An afro wouldn't work, but maybe-- [ comes to a halt when they almost pass by a store that has gowns on display. ] Oh, awesome! We're in luck! C'mon, let's find you something pretty to wear.

[ leads them in before she has any say in it, removing his arm from around her shoulders to instead start browsing the selection. ]

[ grips the strap of her bag again with both hands, standing a bit awkwardly in the middle of all these high-priced, sparkly pieces of cloth.

... begins her slow migration to the back where the sales definitely must be. ]

[ while he's careful in selecting a few dresses, testing out the poofy-modesty level of them. there are too many sparkles and sequins for his taste (really, his mom would be making that face at them that only he and his dad could properly recognize) so he only comes out of the war zone with three.

makes a beeline to his friend over in the sales section, holding out the first dress (http://i56.tinypic.com/nbzq12.jpg). ]

I know this one screams 'pretty princess', but I love the color and the design is unique and it would look ah-mazing on you!

[ looks away from where she's mindlessly turning the selections over, eyes crossing a bit. ]

. . . How is that. How do you. [ put that on? ]

[ blinks, looking it over... then laughs. ]

Oh, don't worry, this material in the front is just for decoration. [ flips the dress, pointing to the one zipper on the back. ] Just two quick and easy steps: Unzip, then zip again!

[ takes the dress, mollified. ]

Just this one?

[ takes a few steps back to sit on one of the seats next to the dressing room, placing the two other dresses in his lap. ]

For now.

[ shrugs & waddles into the dressing room with the poofy monstrosity. places it on the chair provided, stares at it for a moment, then shrugs again, deciding to get it over with. getting undressed is easy, while getting into the dress... not so easy.

but she manages somehow, deciding that if the zipper can't be closed all the way-- well. no need to feel hurt about it. she didn't feel any extra flab flapping around her sides, so it's probably just her inability to reach that far. glances at self in the mirror briefly & then steps outside. spreads her arms. ]

Even my hair can't beat this poof.

[ sets the other dresses aside, looking distinctly excited. ]

Oh! You look absolutely darling in that dress! [ goes to her side, preening her hair a little bit. ] If only you didn't have a dress for prom already...

[ shrugs for the... third time in under ten minutes, just letting lyssa do his thing. ]

What can you do? It's tradition.

That's okay! We'll get you into one of these someday. [ steps back again, handing her the other dress (http://i52.tinypic.com/m9930h.jpg). ] I don't think this counts as a real prom dress, but the color would look great on you!

[ takes the dress around the poof awkwardly. ]

. . . Isn't this a size too small?

[ looks her up and down. ]

Mm... no, I believe it will fit you. The style is supposed to be slimming.

Are you sure? [ gestures down at the dress on her right now. ] This doesn't fit perfectly either.

[ takes the dress from her, looking at it from every angle with a slightly perplexed look on his face. ]

It might be that the sizes in this store runs small... hang tight, I'll go get you another one.

[ & then he hurries on off to go on a hunt. ]

[ looks around & settles down on the chair, not minding the way that the zipper seems to making a slightly hrk sound at her back. tugs at one of the clumped pieces of poofy hair, wondering if she could cut it. if there were scissors out there that was possible of cutting it.

or she could go to a hairdresser, but it'd be a bit of a pain to look for ones that she hasn't tried in this city yet. none of them liked her hair very much... ]

[ while she monologues, he's digging to the back of the rack he found the dress on before sighing in relief when a few more come into view. flips the tag to see if it's a size up, shrugging when it's two. should fit regardless, or so he thinks.

weaves in and out of the rows of dresses, standing tall when he returns and holds it out to her again. ]

Okay, try this one!

[ gets to her feet & accepts the dress. in & out she goes of the change room again, the process almost the same. only this time, the dress is looser on her & she seems pretty pleased by it when she reappears. ]

This one's more comfortable.

[ looks up from playing with the straps on the last dress, blinking. after a pause he leans in. after another long pause: ]

... can I buy you that? You look really good in it.
