[ of course, as it turns out, the one thing that she's forgotten to mention to lyssa was the fact that she didn't really have a convenient method of transportation. all she'd asked for the location & time, thinking that would have been enough. of course it hadn't been.

... oh well.

hooking her small messenger bag-slash-purse on her shoulder, she bids her dad goodbye after reassuring him that she'll be back by ten (yes, yes, don't worry, just the mall--). & promptly feels glad that she left two hours before the time she's supposed to meet lyssa 'cause she just missed the bus & the next one won't be arriving for another half-hour. she settles down, pews & waits. long story short (after she subtracts the bus ride & all the weird things her hair is doing in the humidity), she manages to get to the mall in once piece: none of her organs are missing, her dress isn't ripped up, & no one had shoved her head down a toilet. day's pretty good so far (where's wood to knock on when she needed some?). 'cept the fact that she's probably a few minutes late, but--

... oh well.

she'll apologize to lyssa as soon as she can find him. ]

[ quickly sends off the text message he decided to send nick at the last minute (doesn't expect a reply, but impulses were hard to resist), pocketing the phone when she ~~kwehs~~ comes back again. smiles down at her, once again offering his arm. ]

That was fast. [ begins their walk again. ] Got everything you need this time?

[ her arm tight around his, she nods tentatively. ]

I think so. [ she hopes so. ]

[ lifts his free hand to make it into a fist. ]

Never fear! I, the mighty driver, would gladly take you back in the blink of an eye if you realized that you forgot something else.

[ stares at the fist for a moment, then reaches over to give it a little pat. ]

The party is expecting you. [ & her, but mostly him. ]

[ shrugs a bit, lowering the hand again. winks over at her. ]

Ah, but my date isn't the party. You are, so you're more important.

[ gives a nod a though she thought about his logic & wholeheartedly agrees. well, she kinda did & does, so it's not a complete lie. ]

I'm pretty sure I've everything. [ so rushing back home probably isn't necessary. don't worry, lyssa. her trusty bag will come through for them if they're in a pinch. the camera was just a minor hiccup. ]

Then off we go!

[ that's all he'll say for now, leading them down the hallway once more. the journey from the elevator to the car is shorter than usual to him, going through his typical motions to escort her into the car. (thinks it's extra important at this moment, though. prom night was nothing to be sniffed at, after all!) once they're buckled in he's ~~putt putt putting~~ driving down the road, humming the my little pony theme song just for amanda. ]

[ immediately upon hearing the tune, she starts humming along, swaying back & forth as the lyrics run through her head.

my little pony, my little pony, isn't the world a lovely place~
my little pony, my little pony, everywhere you go, a smiling face~
running and skipping; merrily tripping--
watching the morning unfold~

... this is the best trip to the prom ever. ]

[ grins to himself when he hears her humming, knowing this is probably the only thing they'll be 'saying' for the remainder of the trip to their destination.

feels lucky when they find a free space right away (and close to the entrance, too!) as he parks in the spot, stepping around the car after shutting it off to, as usual, open amanda's door. though this time he politely extends his hand out to her, smiling. ]

[ takes the hand & uses that to support her exit out of the car. glances around at the area with a small amount of awe. ]

They put a lot of thought into it. [ & went all out, apparently. ]

[ shuts the door before locking up the car, keeping a hold on her hand while they move to the entrance. ]

Of course they did, it's prom! You know, the most important night for most of these students. Magical things happen!

[ gives his hand a squeeze as she shuffles after him. ]

What sort of magical things?

[ without missing a beat: ]

Adult stuff.

So there's no ponies.

Probably not...

It's okay. [ she's rather used to feeling a little empty & disappointed in social events. ]

[ strokes his chin, thinking... then beams, stopping them when they get inside. ]

If you want, I could at least kiss you at the end of the night!

[ gives him a blank stare.

but you always give her a kiss at the end of the night, lyssa. well, 'cept yesterday, but she got lots of hair pets, so that's okay. it's kinda like tradition, isn't it?

so wouldn't it be newer if she gave him a kiss at the end of the night? there's a thought... she's used to giving her dad kisses to the cheek, so she can definitely do that with lyssa. maybe if lyssa's scary dad isn't around, she can work up the courage to do it. but then again-- this is prom! she definitely needs to do something special since she couldn't get that dreidel ready. ]

I'm going to make so many people jealous. [ both girls and boys. ]

[ her words tip him off to finally look around, noticing a few eyes on them already. mainly a group of girls that had been out for amanda for... well, ever, probably. not good. ]

Let's hope not. [ tugs her forward. ] Let's go get something to drink first.

[ follows him obediently. ]

My dad told me to stick to water. Or canned drinks.

[ glances at her, curious. ]

Why?

I don't know. He said 'just to be safe'.

[ thinks about it... and then it clicks. ]

Ah. Your dad has quite the imagination.

He just needs to stop thinking so much. [ says pot about kettle. ]

[ which is exactly what he's thinking, but he lets it slide once he locates the table where the beverages are at. looks over their choices. ]

So punch is out of the question?
