[ isn't entirely there even when the plane comes to a complete stop; the noise ringing in his head is as painful as he remembers it being, making him sway a bit while pressing a hand to his forehead. the world before his eyes seems to double, triple, merge back into one, then double again, while the blueprint-world throbs in noisy emptiness. makes small whimpering noises when they're walking, barely hanging onto consciousness by focusing on that comforting, erratic heartbeat he knows is near.

gropes around for a smaller hand that he knows is around (but can't remember why it would be right this moment) while mumbling absentmindedly under his breath in german, as if he's welcoming himself back home. ]

[ feels like he should have some instant reply to this, but ends up just giving a tiny embarrassed shrug. ]

But birthday not in file. Why? Do not know, so no present. . .

'Cause it's not important to the file. Why would anyone need to know my birthday?

[ inhales, exhales. lifts a hand to pat caleb's head. ]

I didn't join SAVE to have parties.

Erm. . . that is right, but. . .

[ droops a bit. ]

Team is family in SAVE. Family make family be happy.

[ nudges him a bit, sitting up straighter so that he can place his head on caleb's shoulder. ]

Is that how it operates here in Germany?

[ moves obediently to adjust for their repositioning. ]

Erm. . . old team is close? Is like family. Hilda is family.

[ drops his gaze down to his lap in thought. ]

... how did you become close?

[ wraps his arm around nathan again, holding him for strength & comfort. ]

Is hard to say. I do not remember everything, but I stay with old team when free, and stay with team. Always stay close.

[ shakes his head a bit, pressing his nose into caleb's shoulder. ]

Sorry, I don't really understand. It's never really been the same with us. Or with me, anyway. Aaron and Hana have known each other longer than I've known both of them, so. [ offers a shrug. ]

[ turns his head to rest his chin on nathan's. ]

New team is not old team. Is different, I know. Different for Nathan. But both is important. [ squeezes gently. ] Is special.

[ lets himself think over that for a moment in silence. shoulders drop in defeat before he finds himself moving into another position: scoots down a bit so that he can curl up, placing his head down on top of caleb's lap. closes his eyes. ]

... hey. Can you do me a favor? Since it's my birthday and all.

[ blinks when nathan shifts. then lifts a hand to run the back of it against nathan's cheek before the question registers. gives a quick nod. ]

Ja! Anything!

[ shifts so that he can look up at him fully, something sad and lonely flickering across his face for a split-second. subdues it quickly, however, allowing his cheeks to flush pink in slight embarrassment for his next words. ]

Can you... speak in German for me? Just for a little bit?

[ catches that expression not via sight, but a slight hitch in breathing. makes him lean down to press his lips against a corner of nathan's eye while he murmurs against the skin: ]

< Anything. If that's what you wish. >

[ does not understand the words but it makes him smile anyway, eyes still closed as he takes it in. turns his face a bit to brush his nose against caleb's, almost in a silent means of appreciation, even if he also chooses to voice it: ]

Thank you.

[ gives a returning smile & starts speaking in a long string of words, mostly speaking of little nothings with a few comments about germany. rests his hand in nathan's hair as he continues to talk, eyes lifting to gaze into the fire. ]

[ turns towards him and slides his arms up to use his hands as a cushion against his head and caleb's lap, moving forward a little more to press his forehead to his companion's stomach. keeps himself silent as he listens, a warm, familiar feeling spreading comfortably through his body. ]

[ stops speaking for a moment when he pauses to think. then brushes away some of nathan's hair, takes a breath & starts to sing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak9ads-ejvM) softly -- a different tune than the first night they spent together. ]

[ and he peers up at him, eye half-lidded as the music soothes him even further, body relaxing fraction by fraction. lips slip upward into a small smile throughout the song, only speaking once caleb finishes: ]

... wish I knew what that all meant.

[ shakes his head, once again pausing. then decides to stick to german for a little while longer. ]

[ snickers at that, pushing his face further into caleb's stomach. ]

Alright, alright, you don't have to speak in German any longer.
