[ the weeks seemed to drag by so slowly for him whilst robert were away, having little-to-no interest in the happenings around him throughout the duration of the other boy's leave. more often than not he would be seated by his window, gaze locked on the path that robert would surely return on. it was there that he stayed for most of his days, leaving it only to eat, bathe, or when his mother summoned him. regardless he would put on a smile for those around him, as if nothing was amiss and would say that his brother would surely return soon, that he would be gone for only a short while.

that short while turned into weeks. months. far longer than robert had ever been gone before. on his bad days he wondered if his brother had grown tired of his position (of their situation) and thus would not return for good, but those thoughts were always shadowed by the hope and faith he had in his prince. surely the day of his return would come.

opens his eyes slowly when the sound of music reaches his ears again, lifting his gaze back up towards the crowd of dancing people before him. after some time of simply gazing he sits up straighter in his chair, the one that is forever to his mother's right. does not look at her as she speaks to someone, his curiosity nonexistent. instead he raises his glass and slips at the liquid inside, going back to his silent thinking (of robert, of other things that had been on his mind for quite some while) as a somewhat glazed look overcomes his features once more. ]

[ turns slightly to laugh quietly into his shoulder. ]

I will be sure that it is made with the brightest shade of fabric.

[ smiles widely. ]

A shade of gold or silver, if you please. Yellow will also suffice. Or perhaps pink, to burn the colour into our liege's eyes?

If not pink for your default, I will surely have it made regardless. You may wear it for Robert's return.

And our collective reward will be the terror in his eyes.

[ hums in consideration. ]

I believe you are being quite a bad influence on me.

[ spins them around & releases a quiet breath when the action goes as planned without mistakes. ]

Yes, and that privilege is all mine.

[ raises eyebrows slightly at that, giving her an encouraging smile for a job well done. ]

How possessive of you to say so.

[ puffs out her chest a little, basking in the silent compliment. ]

My apologies. But I am a woman of truths, Your Highness.

Is that so? I would have never guessed.

Hm? [ slowly begins to take the lead, though her movements remain cautious. ]

That implies that I've given you reason to think otherwise.

[ shifts into their switched positions gracefully, eyes still locked onto hers. ]

The implication should be promptly ignored. I trust you with my life, after all.

[ eases into the lead role with more confidence, twirling them again. then brings up their locked hands to her lips so that she can press her lips against annabelle's fingers. ]

That you do. It's quite a heavy responsibility on my frail shoulders.

[ smiles gently at the gesture, using one of his thumbs to rub her shoulder in thought when they settle back into place. ]

While I see nothing but strong shoulders and a brave soul.

[ tilts her head with a small smile. gives annabelle a playful nudge. ]

Ah, I do enjoy flattery. Tell me more.

[ turns his head slightly to the side, looking away. ]

I must deny that request for the moment. Perhaps another day.

Hmph. You're a tease, princess.

To you, perhaps.

Such cruelty. At least tell me that you do it out of affection.

And if I do not?

A long and lonely night await me, I suppose. Full of tears and alcohol.

Oh no, I will not let you get away that easily.

Are you offering your night to me, dearest princess? [ gasps for show. ] But think of the rumours.

[ uses the hand not connected to hers to press the tips of his fingers against his mouth. ]

You are right... we should try to be more discrete.

Ah, but fear not. I do know a few shortcuts from the kitchen. Or three.

[ chuckles briefly. ]

As do I, though I believe I have Robert to thank for that knowledge.
